We had a wonderful stay in this hotel. Benoit was very helpful and he speaks English well (his parents not so much). He and his parents lovingly tend to Hotel Ohartzia. The garden in the back was lovely and peaceful. We also enjoyed the breakfast and although there is an extra charge we thought it was worthwhile.The room we had overlooked the garden and I would not consider it roomy, but it certainly suffised. The bathroom was modern and all worked well. There were drawers in the bathroom for all our "stuff"! The facade of the hotel is very cute viewing it from down the street. I would recommend this locally owned hotel and would definitely stay there again.

3 days in St. Jean de Luz

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming and quaint hotel. The gardens out back were quite lovely and would have been nice to have breakfast in them IF the weather would have been warmer. However, the inside room was really charming and the breakfast was delicious. A great place to stay in this oh so lovely harbor town. The artists in the town square have fabulous artwork for reasonable prices! They even sign the back of the painting for you.

What a delightful hotel, very central for all amenities, beautiful garden for lounging in the sun, delicious breakfasts in or outside, staff who go the extra mile to be helpful, clean comfortable rooms with lifts to all floors, a separate lounge for guests.  Everything a person could wish for on a relaxing holiday

Very near beach, shops and restaurants

Room was small but clean with window overlooking the street.  Common areas for breakfast and terraced gardens were charming.  Best locale for touring downtown.  Hotel has short term spot for checkins, very helpful when finding a room.

Charming small hotel, great locale

My wife and adult son and I stayed at the Hotel Ohartzia for two nights in August 2016. 

Our room had a large window that faced a spacious, lovely landscaped courtyard. After the bustle of the old town Saint Jean de Luz streets, walking into the cool lobby and to our room with this view was a pleasure. The room was not air-conditioned but very comfortable nonetheless with the breeze from the window. This was especially pleasant in the late afternoon and evening. The early morning sun through the courtyard trees was nice to wake up to but by mid morning, the full sun coming through was a bit much. Usually, we were gone by then exploring the town and nearby San Sebastian. Because of our schedule, we were never able to have breakfast in the courtyard but we saw others from our window that did. It looked delightful.

Our first night there, we took a bottle of wine out the to courtyard about 10pm and had a wonderful nightcap. The next day we read in the hotel literature that the hotel does not allow outside beverages to be brought into the courtyard. Our bad. Either they didn't notice us (we kept our conversation in low tones) or they don't mind after certain hours but it was most pleasant nonetheless.

The comfortable room was a good size for the three of us. The bath was clean and modern. The front desk always had a smiling hello and goodbye for us as we came and went.

The hotel is located a few steps from the beach, and right around the corner from shopping, restaurants and the local market. We walked to and from the train station with luggage--no problem.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in St. Jean de Luz.

An Oasis in a Busy Basque Seaside Town

A very delightful Basque style hotel with a chic decor,  the Ohartzia is just a few meters from the beach and in the center of town. Recommend requesting a larger room, if you have much baggage. Ours had a double and a single bed, overlooked a pretty garden, very quiet. Rooms on the street could be noisy. Hotel staff very helpful.  We enjoyed two dinners at a good creperie across the street. Very convenient to shops and the main plaza. Room 7 is recommended. Only suggestion, Wifi could be stronger.
