We did not actually stay in this hotel as we were turned away at check in because of the size of our two dogs. We booked three days in advance, by phone, directly with the owner. The owner said that they would charge an additional five euros per dog per night and we agreed to this charge. However, when we arrived the owner looked at the dogs through the window and told us they were too big! Now, one is a cross Border Collie and the other a slightly smaller cross (who knows what) so they are medium sized. At no point had the owner asked about the size of our dogs. This meant we had to find somewhere else which would take dogs after a long drive. I thought this was disgraceful behaviour and wondered if the owner had another reason for rejecting us.

With dogs

We paid $100 euros for a top floor room ( no elevator) no fan and mosquitoes in the middle of the night. Not much sleep that night.
In the morning I went down to the kitchen to get my wife a cup of coffee. When we were leaving the owners wife asked me for$2.50 euros for the coffee. Cheap, cheap, cheap.

Over priced, greedy owners.

After booking and pre-paying on Hotels.com, I arrived at 7:50 PM to check in, but was told in French over the intercom that "the hotel is closed". The hours for arrival were listed online as noon until 8 PM. 

My French is good but not perfect. I explained in French that I had paid for a room and that it was not yet 8 PM. The woman on the intercom simply repeated that the hotel was closed and hung up. After wasting a perfectly good hour with Hotels.com customer service, I got a refund, but missed a beautiful sunset on the beach after all this, and customer service couldn't even explain why I was treated this way. Everyone else in St Jean-de-Luz has been amazingly friendly and welcoming!

Don't count on actually getting the room you paid for!

We stayed for five nights, initial reception warm and helpful.
Room was a decent size, large firm double bed, table and chairs, big wardrobe, bedside tables with lamps and wall mounted TV.
Bathroom small but functional, excellent shower pressure.
Quiet but overlooked a parking facility for apartments opposite.
Ate breakfast one morning, again standard for the area and €7.
Room was clean with towels replaced daily.
Checkout efficient and again helpful.
Very close to both the beach and the shopping / eating parts of the town with a handy shop next door.
Only gripe - a mirror other than the one in the bathroom would be welcome.

No frills, no problems

A well placed, very clean hotel, near the beach and town with all its amenities.  The outstanding feature is the real helpfulness of the owners. Kindness itself. Also the breakfast compared very well with other venues in the town!  

All in all a great place to stay.

Great hotel

This is a charming place to stay. Eric and Laure are  helpful and friendly hosts. The rooms are clean, spacious with adequate hanging space. There is no lift, but if you are reasonable fit you will manage the stairs. 

The continental breakfast that Eric and Laure provide is just fine as well. You don't want to fill up with too much breakfast, that you will not enjoy  the wonderful food experiences that await you in the town  of St Jean du Luz.

.. It is about 250 metre walk from the beach and we did  this on many occasions, enjoying the quiet rhythm of what St Jean du Luz is all about.

We would highly recommend this hotel.
