Easy to find from train station. Situated just outside city walls. Friendly owners. Lovely comfortable room with mountain views. Peaceful and quiet. Bed very comfy. Perfect relaxation before starting my Camino.

Lovely little hotel on edge of town walls

This is a great little hotel.  The staff is very friendly, the breakfast is good, the rooms are spotless.  There are quite a few small rooms for people making the pilgrimage and staying one night.  We had one of the larger ones for three nights.  Great location just outside the old city walls.  We highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again on another visit.

Very clean and comfortable

Stayed at Maison d'hotes Itzalpea for one night before walking to Roncesvalles the next morning. I was impressed with the size of the room, the pleasant welcome and the good location, just outside the walled part of town. The bed was comfortable and breakfast was very good. Great little hotel that is good value for money and the perfect place for beginning Camino. There are a few restaurants close by and the pilgrim office is 5 mins away. I slept well and would want to stay again when next in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.

Great little hotel

We had a nice stay at Hotel Itzalpea - great location, reasonable price, spacious, clean, and comfortable.  The staff was friendly and accommodating.  There were no downsides - hotel was right across the street from a gate into the historic walled portion of the town and only about one block away from the Camino Pilgrims’ Office where we got our Credenciales stamped (first selling) and got some last minute tips before starting our Camino early the next morning.  We had a nice time. Thanks!

Began our Camino de Santiago here...

We booked this place as a first stop from Santander, into France. We arrived late afternoon from the ferry and was able to park outside easily. The hotel is popular with older locals for a drink, with a 'younger' bar next door. The owner showed us to our room, which was at the front, spacious and well equipped. She was helpful and happily served us at the bar, on our return from a meal.
If you are planning to stop over in St Jean Pied de Port, this is an ideal stop over and 300m up from the busy part of town, so relatively quiet.
The only downside, is that breakfast isn't included and I don't feel that many continental breakfasts are worth 9 Euros, but this is still worth staying at.

Great little place to stay

We stayed two nights here and it was great! It’s across from the tourist office, so it’s easy to give. Our room was huge - more like a studio apartment. The beds are due for an upgrade but we slept okay. 

Breakfast was 9 euros- a little pricey but easy and delicious. Staff were very friendly! 

You do have to hand over your room key every time you leave but they had patience with this even when we came and went. 

Decent stay! 

Stayed for the night before we started the Camino,  and it is ideally located for this being a short walk from the train station. Rooms were comfortable with a good shower.
There was no restaurant for evening meal,  but breakfast was served on the premises and was the usual continental fare.
