We stayed here for one night before starting our Camino Frances. The building is beautifully restored with attention to every detail. Even their garden was spectacular. Every room was charming with everything you would need - night lights, mini fridge, extra pillows, seating area for coffee, etc. But the best feature is the luxurious beds! The owners were so warm, friendly and accommodating. They graciously stayed up for our late arrival.

We had a wounderful stay in this charming old french house in St Jean.The house and rooms are very tastefully decorated and have wounderful views from some of the bedrooms.There were 7 of us and we had booked our eveving meal in this house. We were not dissapointed as we were severed up a lovely traditional veal stew, and our three course meal only cost us 14€, and brakfast was also excellent.The owners of the house were lovely host and very charming (including the big dog).The location is excellent for the start of the camino.

BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE

Very nice owner. Good comfortable room on top floor. This was our second 2/day stay here. The room was large with a double and twin bed and a storage cabinet. The bathroom had an older tub with hand wand vs shower. The place is very clean and is a very old quaint house. The rooms have character and aren’t modern but comfy!! Breakfast is nice and located on the middle floor, the owner had a very large sweet dog inside. Loved the location- very close to the Camino office! We’ll stay here again!!

Great place to stay on the Camino

We stayed here 2 nights before starting the Camino de Frances. This is an old but lovely house with 3 rooms on the 3rd / top floor. All rooms have private baths. Breakfast is served on the 2nd floor. Lovely owners. They had a wonderful dog so if you are allergic to dogs you may want to go elsewhere. Our room could sleep 3 people. The house is right near the start of the Camino and convenient to shops if you still need to but items for Camino. If you are not walking the Camino there are many cute stores in the area and little street cafes and restaurants. The only On my way! Are not accessible.

Wonderful place to stay. Lovely owners. On Camino.

This was the treat we promised ourselves as a Camino halfway point reward.  Three hundred years old attic room was comfortable bright airy and very adequate.  The breakfast was sufficiently appropriate for Pelerins.  It was fun looking at all the freshly minted and untested pilgrims rolling into town.... oh the stories we could tell.  Bon Camino xx

We had a wonderful time at this B&B.  It is a local place run by local folks and not a luxury hotel chain.  We enjoyed our stay and the folks who run it.

Initially, it was hard to find, but most places in St Jean are.  It is located within the old citadel and is very charming.  Drink a French biere.  

We would go back.  There are few attractions in this small town but it is a hub and a gateway to Spain (Santiago de Campostellain particular), the Pays-Pyrenees and to the cheese country.  Go to Valcarlos for lunch!  Drink a Spanish cerveza.

B&B Maison E. Bernat - St Jean Pied du Port, France

The reason we chose to stay at Maison E Bernat was based on the location & historical nature of the building. It is located in the middle of the historic town quarter.The
rooms are basic but offered lots of space for our backpacks before starting El Camino. Typical continental breakfasts satisfied us. Payment is cash only. The Pension is run by a charming French couple with very little English.

Perfect Location Historic

The best thing about this B and B is its location, right in the centre of the town and in the most interesting street. The exterior of the house is striking and we were excited by what awaited us inside. Sadly, we were disappointed. All the B and B rooms are on the attic floor, where the headroom is very limited indeed- in fact most of our room was very restricted. A nightmare for six footers and over! There was only one Velux window, so no view and very little light. (In summer, this room would be very hot). The en-suite was rather tired looking and cramped, although very clean and the over bath shower was no longer working. Our bed was comfortable, which was just as well, as there was nowhere else to sit. In fact, there was no sitting area in the house, Surely in an area, dominated by walkers and pilgrims there should be a place to relax in.

The breakfast was good with homemade preserves and bakes, but it seemed a shame that the kitchen/dining room had been rather unsympathetically renovated. Tiny formica topped tables seemed inappropriate in such a historic house. The owner was friendly and good humoured but running the gauntlet of the chilly ground floor, which seems to have been abandoned, making our way up to the first floor through a stair gate(restricting the friendly retriever) and then on up to our attic was not ideal! Maybe much has changed since the other reviews and it is time for some refurbishment for this lovely house.
