An old building, this two * hotel would probably be worth an extra * but for the lack of a lift - but hey, only one floor, and the staircase is made for a dramatic entrance.
Then there was the restaurant. The Menu Gourmand just had to be experienced - and I will come back to experience it again.
The night just had to be topped off with a classic Armagnac.
Listed in the Michelin Guide, it is worth a star.

All I wished for

the rooms may be basic but are exceptionally clean and work well. the hidden gem is a restaurant which was superb. The set menu was to die for especially a terreine to start which deserved a michelin star. The chef really knows his business. At Euros 16 for three courses it is well worth a detour. The speciality Tart du Maison was just superb as well. We eat outside looking into the small village square surrounded by locals. The next day I was at a michelin starrd restaurant and cannot say it could better this place. Capable friendly staff who dealt with our stay efficiently.

A place to stay and eat

We first chanced upon the mediaeval hamlet of St Justin about 10 years ago and we have been staying at the Hotel de France every 2-3 years. It hasn't changed much over the years (the cat appears to have been banned from the reception desk). The concierge still greets us with suspicion but warms up when we start speaking a little French. The rooms are excellent, large and old-fashioned, some need a lick of paint but others are in tip-top condition. A visit to this really charming town (dating from 1280) is truly a step back in time. The restaurant serves decent if not outstanding dishes but the house red is best avoided. There are some rather odd people around, harmless, but a little strange, but they don't try to get upstairs! Just take a stroll through the cobbled streets, listen to the church bells, and soak up the atmosphere -- it's like a film set for the 3 Musketeers or the Devils of Loudun!

A Step Back in Time

Due terrible traffic conditions and danger to arrive too late we have tried to call the facility between 14:00 and 18:00 without success. First at 18:00 the hotel owner pick up the phone and we tried to push the Check In time. The hotel owner shouted at us stating that we can’t expect the Check-In time to be pushed as it is fixed and impossible to move. 
Even proposing to pay an extra fee and clarifying that we are traveling with two small children it was not possible to convince the Hotel owner to do an exception. Finally, while I was still talking trying to find a solution, the hotel owner hang up the phone.
