We had a fab couple of days in Ile de Re, using Le Corps de Garde as our base. Great location right by the waterfront, you need a code to get access to park in front of the hotel (they provide this). We stayed in the Oceane room on the top floor. No a/c - but not needed with the ocean breeze. Bed vvvv comfy! Breakfast was a selection of pastries/breads & jams. Great coffee. If you like quirky - this place is for you. 

Great location B&B

It was the third time that we stayed in 'Le Corps de Garde'. The romantic setting is unchanged. Always take a room with Harbour view.The breakfast is still awesome,The daughter will take over. Time for a new generation. 

nostalgia

This beautifully converted coastguard house is perfectly situated overlooking the harbour yet only minutes away from the delightful, busy port of St Martin. The furnishings and interesting accessories suit the building well although some items are can need of up-dating - the chairs in the dining room and are bedroom were on their last legs.  Our room, Ocean is on the top floor up a tortuous spiral staircase and no offer of help with our bags was available despite having a slipped disc.  The room was spacious with a great view, reasonably well equipped although  a kettle and fridge would have been useful.  The room was not particularly clean and the bathrobes were stained and dirty.  The room was not serviced on our first morning.  Breakfasts were very good with fresh orange juice and nice breads and patisserie.  We enjoyed our stay here despite the above but it is not cheap, even for Ile-de-Re, and could improve

more shabby than chic

The location of this accommodation could not be better. It is located right on the quayside in the heart of St Martin de Re, but because it is at the quiet end, you don't have the heavy morning traffic trundling past your window at 7a.m. We spent four very pleasant days here recently.

It must be said that the decor is quite different. If ill-fitting doors, mismatched furniture and creaking hinges are not to your liking, then give it a miss. However, if you enjoy an ambience that is highly personal and not like all other standard accommodation across the world, then you might like it. It is a cross between a film set and a museum, with all aspects in place to create a particular look and feel. It certainly is different. We got a very pleasant breakfast each morning, served by a very hard-working girl and the room we had was quite big with a (somewhat retricted but pleasant) view of the sea in one direction.
Overall, although the place appears a bit chaotic, it is spotlessly clean and all modern amenities are fully available. Well worth a visit for a different experience.

Quirky accommodation in the heart of St Martin de Re

The Île de Ré has plenty of lovely places to visit and the harbour at Saint Martin de Ré is among the best. So one must expect to pay a little more for a room on the quayside and within a few steps of some excellent restaurants. But the Corps de Garde is particularly special with an eclectic mix of furniture, paintings and artefacts combining to make a charming and uniquely stylish whole. We were given a lovely room overlooking the harbour with a luxuriously teak decked bathroom. The breakfasts, with freshly squeezed orange juice, broad selection of fresh fruit, pastries and delicious freshly baked bread fortified us for our exploration of the island. 
Our concern that late night revellers at the top end of the harbour might disturb our sleep was partially realised on the Saturday night but we soon returned to sleep. One must accept that in such a location there are bound to be others enjoying its charm and ambience. That we so enjoyed our visit was in large part because of the Corps de Garde. But it was not cheap and parking at 15 euros a day, and restaurants at a minimum of 30 euros per meal meant that our 48 hours on the island cost us around 800 euros for two. So it will be, for us, only a place for occasional return visits.

An excellent weekend in comfortable and charming accommodation.

What a find this lovely place is. It is a cross between a really characterful chic small hotel and an amazing upmarket B&B. You can sense the love and dedication put into the renovations and the result is a relaxing, very welcoming charming and authentic haven at the quiet end of the harbour.

We stayed in Le Phare on the top floor advertised as small but we loved it - and we didn't think it was small. The bathroom was lovely accessed through stripped pine doors and paneling. Looking at the collection of photos taken during the renovation it is hard to imagine just how they managed to create the olde worlde atmosphere this hotel/B&B has.

Breakfast, included in the price - so rare in France - was a delight. All served on lovely linen with mismatched crockery, plates of  fruit on the table and everything else you would expect. If you can get into the courtyard for breakfast it is well recommended.

A delightful find and we look forward to staying there again.

Excellent

We have just returned from a wonderful 5 night stay at Le Corps De Garde. We had booked the room "Trousse Chemise" because of its description on the website and it did not fail to impress. The views of the harbour and out to sea from the 3 windows were incredible. The bed was comfortable and the room was well furnished along the advertised "shabby chic" style. 
We were met by the owner Babeth who made us welcome and did her best to help us with our poor command of the French language.
The breakfasts were served in the lovely drawing room, however we took the offer of breakfast in our room on one morning and also were invited to eat in a lovely sunny courtyard on another. 
Its not often that we say that we will return to a particular place but Le Corps De Garde is now at the top of our list of places to go back to.

Fantastic location

This was my third visit at Babeth and Julia's marvelous house, Le Corps de Garde. Beautifully located on the quiet side of the small harbor, overlooking the daily movement of the sailing boat and the sunset,the house is magnificently decorated, charming and authentic, with delicate linen and furniture. Every Time I feel as if I was in my own family home. 
This time we were at Julia's room on the first floor with a beautiful view and we slept so well! 
Babeth is super warm and welcoming. We even shared a nice moment together out side for the so french aperitif with white wine. A special treat for loyal guests! 
Julia is preparing and serving a delicious breakfast, with a variety of fruits, yogurts, breads and danish, in a nice and elegant setting. In the dining room or in the cute courtyard if the sun is shing (it was!)
Any suggestion you might need for diner, lunches or visit, Babeth will advise you the best! 
And for any assistance as well, like a taxi to make your journey back easier, she will efficiently arrange for you!
Definitely my favorite place in l'Ile de Ré!

A delicious moment, again! 

This is a guest house offering Bed & Breakfast in a great location. The property is best described as "shabby chic". It is very clean and our room, a superior double, was of a very good size, dual aspect with a slightly restricted view of the entrance to the harbour. I couldn't describe the accommodation as luxurious but it has a certain charm about it, although the sisal floor covering in the bedroom was quite uncomfortable in bare feet. Natalie who served us breakfast and cleaned our room was very cheerful and loved to chat, although she spoke very little english. We enjoyed our stay but felt that it was little pricey.
