We've recently returned from a 10 day stay at this amazing B and B, the house and grounds are perfect for a charming, comfortable stay. The location is excellent, quiet, and rural whilst only a  15 minutes drive from St Malo centre. There are also some excellent local restaurants within a few minutes. Our room was full of character, spacious and very comfortable.
The hosts, Claude and Agnes were wonderful, friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
We would certainly stay here again if we are in the St Malo area.

Fabulous stay

On our journey, my husband and I, to Normandy and Brittany this historic maison François saw us as guests and it stayed in my heart. With kindness, kindness and gentleness, the owner François and his wife Agnes welcomed us into their dream home. Mr. François on our arrival immediately offered us something to drink and had us visit part of his house and recommended a great restaurant for dinner. The maison François is surrounded by hectares of well-groomed green grass, secular trees and flowers, many flowers such as daisies and ortensias. In this house for me everything from the windows that give gardens, paintings, tapestries and small buildings in general. I have called up and thanked Agnes for the very old woodwork that every step of the way in our journey may have a nice price, but I have a very nice breakfast, thanks to the fact that we have a very nice breakfast and a very nice breakfast, especially thanks to the ladies and gentlemen who come to our house.

A dream

Our car rental GPS failing us yet again, announcing we had "reached our destination" when in the middle of nowhere, we rang the Manoir for better directions. 

Agnes, one of the owners, said she'd meet us in the town square by the church and we could follow her. Once we arrived at their lovely manor house, and had settled in, she made us a lovely pot of tea which we drank in their beautiful garden along with freshly made Madeleines. It was a perfect beginning to our 4 night stay here.
Agnes, who is British but has spent many years in the US and elsewhere, and her French husband, Claude, are the consummate hosts.  Breakfasts at a long table in their cozy dining room were a great start to the day as well as fun and interesting as we chatted with the owners and other guests.  

Our room was lovely and the mattress a very good one for which I was very grateful after a long drive to reach the property.  

We hope to return to this beautiful part of France and would not hesitate to stay at Les Trauchandieres again and recommend it highly to others.

This is a beautiful old house with a fascinating history only a few minutes from the ferry port of St Malo.  We only spent two nights there and would have stayed longer if it were not for the horrible cost of changing our ferry booking.  First impressions are so important, and to be sat down in the garden by Claude and offered a cup of tea out of Spode china really set the tone.  Both Claude and his wife Agnes have so much time for their guests that after a couple of nights you really feel as if you are more than just paying guests.  
We don't need to comment on the breakfasts as others have done so before.  Just to say that  they are excellent, and you feel part of the family when Claude tucks into eggs an bacon with you!

Just a great place to stay and charming hosts.

Staying with Agnes and Claude in St-Malo was an absolute highlight of our time in France. They were so gracious and accommodating. We accidentally arrived about 30 minutes early and Claude was very welcoming, stopping what he was doing to make us hot chocolate, tea, and cookies and to talk with us, which was really appreciated after a long drive and rainy afternoon. 

The rooms were quiet and the beds very comfortable – we all (2 adults, 2 kids) had the best night’s sleep we’ve had during our trip – there were fresh crisp sheets and duvet covers that were the perfect weight – one of those mornings where you are so comfortable, you don’t want to get out of bed. 

Breakfast was extensive and delicious – eggs, bacon, chocolate croissants, baguettes, locally made yogurts, granola, fresh berries, fresh squeezed orange juice. 

They also very graciously let us use their charging station at the house to charge our EV car! 

Additionally, there are a very cute Airedale terrier (Lily) and cat (Marie Antoinette, with a neat story to accompany the name) at the house. They are very friendly – our son who is a bit unsure around large dogs said “Lily is big, but she is so nice and such a good girl, I’m not scared of her at all.” Marie Antoinette is also very friendly – our daughter loved holding her. The kids played with Lily outdoors before we headed off to dinner (at Fideles – highly recommended, we all had the chef’s menu and it was really good; may need to make reservations as it was quite popular even in the off season on a rainy Thursday night). 

An absolute highlight of our trip and a truly memorable stay. Thank you, Claude and Agnes! You are welcome to visit us in Santa Barbara any time. 


A must!

We spent a beautiful, peaceful, quiet night with our little girl in this beautiful house in the historical past. The breakfast was perfect, very rich, very varied, very complete in an EXCELLENT word. The owner of the place accompanied us during this time and told us the story of this fascinating place, kindly offered us to visit the private parts of the Malouiniere. We left our short stay delighted with a little regret that we could not enjoy the beautiful garden because of the bad weather. Thank you very much.

A very beautiful experience in a historic home that has a soul.

We stayed for one night as a stop over from the ferry. We’re bowled over by the warm welcome and excellent conversation. 
So pleased we booked this rather than a faceless hotel in town. Will definitely be back if we come this way again.

Fantastic gem and lovely welcoming hosts. Exceeded our expectations and super value for money.

When we arrive, we discover a building and very different edges of the photos: stored vehicles, DIY equipment laid out in front of the establishment, damaged windows including a black brick wall..... We go over this first visual and knock and ring....A non-existent reception, the owner arriving 40 minutes after our phone call. The establishment is open and accessible to all. We are allowed by phone by the owner of the premises to enter and view the reservations on the table in order to access our room. In common areas, the breakfast table is not served at 6pm, the reception equipment is on the stairs, we also stay in the wine, etc. Among the reservations, we do not allow customers to enter the hotel room, and if they do not arrive at our hotel, we do not allow them to discover the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, the rooms, etc.

This is scandalous.

Four days in this beautiful Malouinière, an exceptional reception by attentive guests, a rich and varied lunch in a dining room that has a soul in front of a comforting fireplace a staircase that tells its story to lead to the upstairs rooms a large park.

A return to the past with a very friendly welcome

The hosts are wonderfully simple people who welcome their guests with warmth and care. 
Location itself is romantic, beautiful and has an authentic charm. 
House is equiped with a beautiful lounge and a enormous  garden that guests are encouraged to use as their own. Garden is perfect if you have children. Our daughter loved running around the garden with the chickens and petting the family dog.
Overall, the experiance was so much more than we hoped for.
