We had a wonderfull stay there. Just one night. Stunning view. Great room for 3 persons one double bed and one other real bed in a mezzanine. We took dinner and had enough to eat including aperitif and wine. For 18e we had better than in ay restaurants around in Saint Jean Pied de Port. We will come back if we can and we recommend this stay. Room was renovated, clean and confy with a balcony.  Breakfast was ok but we would have liked a little extra but for 6 euros you cannot expected a brunch of 20e !

Even better than expected

We recently stayed at Ferme Ithurburia for one night at the beginning of the Camino. The staff at the hotel are grumpy and not helpful if English is your first language. The doors on the rooms don't lock which isn't helpful when travelling with children. The meal was the worst on the Camino, paying $18 Euros for a bowl of soup, very small portion of meat and a couple of fried potatoes and a sliver of cake. These people are taking the mick. 

Stay in town

Short version - hotel room is OK, pilgrim dinner is a rip-off, and price is subject to change while you're there in spite of assurances given by the owner. 

We had a short first day on the Camino and arrived at Ferme Ithurburia around 1:00pm. The owner checked us in and asked in a combination of French and English if we wanted the pilgrim's menu dinner for 18 Euro per person. There's really nothing else around so we agreed in spite of the outrageous price, thinking it would obviously be something special. The owner told us if we opted for the dinner then breakfast would be free. "Gratis, inclus, un cadeau" were words she used.  

Dinner did include a glass of port and a glass of wine, but there was nowhere enough food for the 15 or so people eating. The meal was a salty vegetable soup, over-cooked beans, and cut up chicken, followed by a pretty good slice of apple pie and cheese. But not nearly enough of the main course. When one person asked for more chicken she was told there was no more. Everyone left hungry after paying 18 euro pp. 

Then, after dinner when we paid for our room and meal, the owner said breakfast was not included and denied telling us it was free, included, and a gift because we had opted for the pilgrim's dinner. She insisted that we pay 5 euro each for breakfast even though others at the dinner table paid the same for dinner and got the breakfast for free. Very weird and quite concerning. And breakfast was very pathetic - baguette, jam, juice and coffee - for 5 euro pp. Even compared to the often minimalist continental breakfast typical on the Camino, it was very poor. 

So, the room was OK, the view down the valley was spectacular, the service in general was surly (other than the Scottish lady who was delightful), the dinner and breakfast were pathetic, and the owner was inconsistent and deceitful. 

We would not stay here again. 

Weird experience - not recommended

We stopped at this alberge on tues 13 september 2016 to shelter from the thunderstorm. We ordered a coffee and was grudgingly given a cup each after waiting about 20 mins. I can only describe the lady who ran this establishment as a witch. She was rude and Agressive. We were the only people in the place do she was not exactly run off her feet with work.  The thunderstorm was dangerous to be out in and after a few minutes other people called by for shelter and got the same treatment as us. Her alberge should be closed down. She has no social skills whatsoever.

Review of this alberge

It's the first refuge when you start el camino de Santiago.. And today it rained a lot.. Me and my boyfriend stoped to collect the stamp.. Not only the owner didn't give us the stamp, she expeld us and our bikes from the terrace because we didn't stay the night.. what a terrible way to start..
