We discovered their brochure by chance at the tourist office in Saintes Maries de la Mer, about 9 km away.  It looked inviting and when I called to inquire about a reservation that night I was surprised by the great price.  I then discovered it was also listed in my trusty French guidebook, Le Guide du Routard, and so I was reassured.  

The welcome was warm and we were shown to our room on the first floor with a view of the pool area.  The location is off the road and is peaceful, lovely and relaxing.  The room for three was nicely decorated although I found the bathroom just a bit small.  Apparently the mosquitoes are vicious in the Camargue but we didn’t experience any fortunately.  They have screens on the windows in the rooms so if it is hot you can keep the windows open and keep the mosquitoes out.

You are invited to roam all over their large property of 200 hectares and visit the bulls and the horses.  There is an old barn next to the farmhouse that they have very successfully transformed into a nice hall for events.  Ask them about their events and they’ll be happy to give you all the details and costs – horse back riding, special traditional evenings/afternoons, rides on a big wagon with benches into the bull areas, introduction into the Camargue “cowboy” traditions, etc.

If you want to eat nearby, ask for their restaurant recommendation just down the road, Le Régie.  We ate there and it was very good.  It is a friendly home-style restaurant that has a good selection and reasonable prices.  I had two large calamari steaks cooked to perfection that came with Camargue rice and ratatouille.  

Breakfast can be taken in the dining area or outside in the garden near the pool.
Look for the large stork nest at the entry to the Mas.  I was told the stork returns every year to build its nest in the same spot.  

All in all, this place is great value.   I was charmed and would definitely return here.   It would be nice to stay a week here as home base and fully explore the entire area.

A great experience

This so called "Mas" which is like a Buffalo and Horse Ranch in southern France, offers simple rooms, a pool (only in the summer) and a lot of nature around. You can get some simple breakfast, which you get delivered by the staff to your table. You cant choose, everyone gets the same baguettes, tea/coffee and some jam with butter. Thats it. The beds are for couples who like to snuggle. The shower tubs sometimes fall off. If its windy, which is normal during fall, dont be afraid.. the roof will not be lifted up.. but it sounds like it... So during storm, I was kept awake almost all night.
The area is definitely something I like to come back to, but I will see, if I might want a little more "advanced" room than the one we had.
