Last here four years ago, so knew what to expect. I find the hotel charming. A shared lavatory and shower hence the price, but my room and bed were spotless and the hotel is a pitching wedge from Saintes station. The weather was hot but this old building coped much better than the modern hotel I stayed at in Bordeaux. The owner doesn't speak English but is such a nice person. If you're after a room with en-suite, TV, 'fridge etc. this isn't the hotel for you, but for character oh yes!

Lovely old fashioned hotel

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night last week, on the way back to the UK driving from Southern Spain. I didn't know what to expect after emailing the host asking if there was air conditioning as the weather was extremely hot. The host suggested we might want to consider staying in a higher star hotel as i had also asked for extra pillows and an iron if possible. She told me that i might be more comfortable staying somewhere a little more luxurious as hers was a small, family run hotel and could not provide any of this. As i have a pet allergy and this hotel did not allow pets, i was quite limited in choice without paying more than I wanted for just the one night. When we arrived, the host led me to a small chalet style room across a quirky, slightly overgrown but nevertheless beautiful garden. She had given us extra pillows and in broken English told me that there was a small shower in the corner of the room and a toilet just outside the door. This was a pleasant surprise as the advert had said we would have a sink in the room but would be sharing a shower and toilet. The room, decor, bedding and furniture was very simple but clean and comfortable. In the morning, we decided to purchase breakfast consisting of a croissant with nutella, fresh orange and the most amazing coffee in abundance for only 8 euros in total. Parking was also free and very secure in the host's garden. I would definitely recommend this little hotel and will definitely return.

A lovely simple and typically french hotel

A basic room with wash basin: one toilet and one shower shared between nine bedrooms. Yes, it's like going back in time, as far as the 1950s but personally I loved it. The bed was comfortable, the shower especially good, the location easy to find (just follow the signs to the "gare"), parking not a problem and the town a 15 minute walk away. Would I go back? Yes.

Value and charm

We had to stop for a night as we were driving to Spain and we were tired so we opted for a budget B&B but there’s budget and budget it was clean enough the shower was that small you couldn’t bend to pick up the soap that I had dropped as there was no place to put it and you had to hold the shower head in one hand and try and soap yourself with the other hand not easy, it is very basic but the lady of the house was very nice but your back in the sixties with the decor.

Driving to Spain

Once inside you'll find yourself back in the 70's somewhere in Spain. It's very basic but  clean and has a pleasant atmosphere and good beds.  That was all we needed for our short stay. A little patio with plenty of geranium flower pots hanging on the wall welcomes you if you happen to have a little room in their garden. 
French breakfast at mum's kitchen table. A well preserved old fashioned little homely place. It still exists and I hope it always will.
