The hotel was in a great location.  Parking was about a five minute walk from hotel but easy to get to.   I was disappointed in the room.   The bed was dusty and the shower was moldy.  I was also disappointed in the breakfast.  

Great location but disappointing room

Small but clean with a great bed and warm room! Situated right in town! May be difficult if you have mobility issues. Pack a small bag with the next days clothes and your valuables and leave the rest of your luggage in the car.

Ideal!!

The room is small but very clean, I like fresh air so kept the window open when I was in the room (and there was a lovely view of a public square and hills beyond), the couple who alternated behind the front desk were unfailingly kind and helpful, one could hardly be any closer to the very center of the medieval quarter, and the breakfast was more than adequate, on the patio when the weather was warm. I had a snafu with a train connection to Toulouse: miraculously (peak season was winding down) they had another night available for me and I stayed a fourth night. There is no elevator/lift and I was on the third floor, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Kind and helpful owners/staff

A booking was made on Booking.com on the afternoon of June 5th for a room with two single beds. The confirmation email I received was routine (I use Booking.com a lot) yet there was a paragraph called ‘Special Requests’ that said “BED PREFERENCE:Economy Double Room: 2 singles”. The price of the room was €70. 

We arrived at the hotel (by bicycle) and were told that they wouldn’t honour the booking and that the room I had paid for had a double bed only. The alternative was another room at €120! Surprised and disappointed I requested to cancel the booking. (I couldn’t do this automatically as it was 6pm and the time for cancellation without penalty was expired). They wouldn’t cancel the booking. I was left with the option of wasting €70 or paying an extra €50 to get a room.

The room we got had a double bed in it and two singles. It was not a special room: it had a cramped bathroom and was not worth €120.

The next day the mistake was discussed and frankly I was treated like a thief. As far as the manager was concerned then the room we had was worth €120 and as regards the Booking.com confirmation then because the email I received said ‘Special Requests’ we should have called ahead to check it was going to be honoured. This procedure was new to me and it seemed that a compromise would be responsible and fair. Why didn’t the hotel pick this up and contact Booking.com to decline the booking?

I said to the manager that I would take this up with Booking.com (who he partially blamed); he just retorted that “people like you always complain”.

Later when I got back to the UK I pursued with Booking.com. I still had no idea what mistake I had made. They sympathised with this whole unfortunate episode and committed to providing compensation. 

There are a large numbers of hotels in Sarlat and I can’t think why you would select this one.

Treated Like A Thief

ok very small room, no AC.Window opened is fine unless  you have a problem with bugs.  But can walk to old town easily.  No parking and very difficult with luggage if you have a rental.  no tea pot but they let me use an electric one.  Sarlat is very expensive so this was nice find.  Out door patio for breakfast very nice.

ok for medeival town

We took the aged in-laws to the Dordogne and needed a hotel that was close to the historic centre of Sarlat at a good price. Hotel des Recollets fits the bill - room sizes ok, two minutes from the 'cite medieval', very good breakfast. Ask for rooms 307 and 308 (great for two couples and near enough to the reception area and front door to avoid the stairs!)  Not great for car access, although car parking is provided in a private car park (at a fee). No 'luxuries' in the bathroom - no shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer etc. But the bed was comfortable and the receptionist and the owners were welcoming and friendly. Very good value for money
