This lovely place gave us everything we wanted from the French countryside in the Dordogne region -- beauty, peace, warmth, deliciousness, and kindness, along with so many special details that show the attention, care, and great taste of the owners.  La Maison des Peyrats allows you to be near but not in the middle of the busy, crowded town of Sarlat -- we could enjoy all that Sarlat has to offer because we were outside the fray. If you like to walk, you can easily get into town by foot in 12-15 minutes ... an easy downhill walk on the way in, and a vigorous uphill walk on the return. Of course you can drive, too. 

Some details about this special space: rooms are super-tasteful and comfortable, bathrooms modern, outdoor pool is warm and sunny.  Breakfast is ample, varied, and delicious (including the owner's homemade jellies from his own and neighbors' fruit arbors) and is served in a lovely room, along with many inviting outdoor seating options too. If you want elevators (some rooms are one flight up) and air conditioning, this may not be the place for you (I'll offer that nights were cool and the stone building keeps interiors cool in any case)  -- but if you want to relax in a beautiful spot where the owners care about your experience and have created an elegant but relaxing haven with so many special touches, you will thoroughly enjoy your stay. Our deep thanks to the proprietors for this memorable experience!

Nice B&B, clean rooms, parking is easy, very attentive front desk, breakfast was stark but good, pool area was very nice, space for afternoon cocktails or wine. Our bathroom was very spacious and up to date, towels were large and soft. It a good choice.

It’s a good choice!

The room didn’t make a good first impression. It was up a narrow, rickety staircase. The bed was shoved headfirst into an alcove with no room between the mattress and the wall requiring an awkward climb over the end of the bed to get out. 

The location was peaceful and we had a nice view of the countryside. The trip down into town was a quick walk, but coming home, especially in the rain at night, seemed like quite a challenge. Don’t count on taxis or ride sharing companies getting you up the hill, both are in limited supply. A car worked best and there was plenty of parking in town when we were there.

The man at the front desk was very helpful in giving advice and directions for day trips in the area. He helped us out with restaurant recommendations and reservations. His warmth made our visit more pleasant that we expected.

Charm counts, but not for everything

A really charming hotel, large garden areas just wonderful to sit back and relax enjoying a cool beer or wine at the end of a long day  sightseeing around the area.  Owners very helpful.   Walk into town is OK going down but a bit steep coming back up.  You can get a taxi to and from town.   Nice continental breakfast.   Rooms comfortable and our bathroom was spacious with a large walk-in shower.    Would stay again if in the Sarlat area.

Historical Charm

An ancient property, which is charming, as well as challenging with low ceilings!  Beautiful breakfast in a lovely setting (a bit pricey).  The 10 minute down/15 minute up walk to town was delightful.  The pool would be a lovely plus in the summertime.

Charming hotel with beautiful grounds

I loved this little property! It is quaint and inviting. Our room was small, but had everything we needed. The building and gardens take you back to a different time. The owners are right there and though we didn't have breakfast there, everyone who did seemed to enjoy it. It is close to the historic center, yet far enough away to get a good night's sleep. On the down side, the ceilings in our unit were low in spots and my husband who is 5'11" hit his head so many times he nearly lost consciousness. 

They are right....it IS charming!

We stayed for four nights at this hotel.  The owners were very welcoming and helpful.  The room was clean and airy.  The bed was very comfortable.  The pool and grounds were a wonderful respite after a long day of sightseeing.  The breakfast was great - yogurt, fresh strawberries (in season), croissant, bread, coffee, juice and apple sauce.  The only potential draw back is that you need to have a car.  It is a nice 20 minute walk down the hill to the old town of Sarlat but it would be a very hard walk back up the hill.  If we return to Sarlat, we will stay here again.

Breakfast is excellent and the rooms very comfortable! 
it was great to swim in the pool after the day sightseeing.

fabulous place close to the medieval town.

Located a few minutes drive from Sarlat. Historic building with entrance shrouded in roses, charming patio under trees is great for breakfast and evening cocktails. Surrounding grounds lovely and quiet, room was comfortable though a bit spartan, Owner/manager extra friendly and helpful. 
One caveat: Most people will need a car to get into Sarlat. The walk, though only about 10 minutes, is steep and not well lighted. 
Overall, a very good value. Hopefully we will return.
