Located well but our room was on the fourth floor up a tiny narrow steep staircase. Like a poor guest house inside. Decor is old and tired and was budget when new. If you’re used to student digs you will be ok. It’s a 2 star hotel and deserves 2 stars. For the money there are better places or nearby chains such as ibis.  It’s worth searching round to find better.

Tiny and overpriced 

The room was very clean very central and we had bunk beds as well as double bed so would have been good for a family
Really nice being above the pub more friendly than many a hotel we have stayed in ,the young clientele went out if their way to talk to us and especially thanks to Alice Laurie and Colas who when we were a bit lost as ferry was late when we asked the way personally walked us to the hotel what a credit to St Malo also when we missed our way back Jean Phillipe who drive us to the ferry what lovely people hotel staff were friendly and helpful we would definitly go back very well priced

I didn't stay at the hotel, just ducked into the bar on the ground floor for beers. This was my first Lancelot on tap. It was just 2 Euro 50 for a glass, which of course meant it would have been unethical not have at least a few. The bartender was pleasant, the beer was cold, and I was in St. Malo.

Stopped in briefly for a few beers

We took our grandson to St Malo at the end of July 2016 to practice his French. We chose Hotel Port Malo for its reasonable price and its intramural location. Arriving tired, the minute he saw his galleried bed our grandson was enchanted by the hotel and climbing four flights of stairs, though a challenge for us, was worth it. Our bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean and provided with the essentials. The windows were, as claimed, soundproof, which could have been a blessing on Saturday night but as we stayed in a heatwave we had to keep the windows open and put up with the happy revelries at the pub opposite. An electric fan would have helped. Perhaps we are clumsy but stronger hangers would have been useful too. It in no way affected our stay but attention to decoration, banisters and stair edges would enhance the appearance, but in such a historic building that must be a constant problem. Our set continental breakfast was enough to provide the basis for lunch which helped with our limited budget. Best of all were the owners, who could not have been more charming and helpful. They were very patient with my halting French, went out of their way to enable us to check in with Ryanair and book a taxi, and held our luggage on the last day before our late afternoon flight. The room was too small for 4 people. There was only 1 (ONE) electricity point working in the whole room for 4 people! WIFI is 3€ for 1 hour of usage (still charging for wifi at this century??) 

They have a bar/lounge at the ground floor, another bar opposite the hotel, it was noisy at night and it didn't stop till 2am. We stayed on the second floor.

However, its location is very strategic, right next to the beach!

Nothing much but just great location

Nothing fancy, but a great location within the city walls.  Was clean and management was helpful.  The bar downstairs was a bit loud, but it was the World Cup and France was playing.  The stairs are a bit tight to get up and down,
