This no frills hotel is located on the market square, right next to the tourism office and what is possibly one of the best restaurants in the area, the Hostellerie du Grand Sully. It is a 5 mn walk to the castle, its park and the river Loire picnic area. Lots of cafes around and the market has plenty to offer on the mornings it's on. There's a small supermarket across the road that has everything you need and is open on Sundays, a rare thing in rural France. As for the hotel itself, the decor is certainly sort of medieval kitsch but my room was on the second floor (no lift) light and clean with a very comfy mattress. Breakfast was continental (as in French continental) and very tasty, so worth adding to the room price. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Budget accommodation in the heart of town

On arrival there was no one in reception and after calling out for 10 minutes someone appeared, but couldn't find our booking. This is when the alarm bells started ringing. The room we were given was 2 floor up a narrow stairway with the air smelling of disinfectant. The room was small with what could only be called a medieval bathroom where the shower rose leaked more water than came out of the jet holes.the drain was clogged and you ended up in 5cm of water. The seperate toilet was not fixed to the floor and rocked when you sat on it. Avoid at all costs.

Worst hotel in France

We stayed here for one night. We were offered a choice of rooms and we chose the larger one. The other was very small. The bed was a bit tired and room a little bit grubby however it is an old building. We were happy enough with the room.The bathroom floor was damp when we arrived, although I  thought it may have just been mopped but felt tacky. It rained during the night and the roof leaked through a vent in the ceiling, flooding the bathroom and toilet at 2 am.  This continued all night keeping us awake.  We put a bin under it which we had to keep emptying and used all the towels to mop up the water. The constant sound of the dripping drove us crazy although we tried to muffle it with a towel.  Needless to say we did not have much sleep. We told the manager in the morning and from his reaction I do not think this was a new incident. When we went to pay there was no offer of a discount to account for our discomfort.  I suggested that he forgo the cost of breakfast which was also a sad affair.  He replied that we could have asked to change rooms and demanded the full payment.   Not quite sure how we could have moved rooms as the place was in darkness and reception closed. Even if possible it would have been a huge disruption.  We paid and left.  We then received a note from booking.com to say the manager advised that we had not shown up for the booking. This is ongoing and I think this could be to prevent us leaving a review on the site or to try and double charge as it was made clear on check-in that the booking was through booking.com. Avoid at all costs.

Avoid at all costs

The ugly decorations in the hallway accompanied with a bad smell will follow you to your room. I though it was a bad joke!! My husband booked this hotel on Booking.com because of the good rating there. Poor him, so wrong! And I was not in the mood to forgive him. The room was small, ugly, smelly! There are no words to describe it. The bathroom! Oh, the bathroom: first, one couldn't use it because of the smell. I'm not quite sure what it was, but it was enough to puke your stomach (I am a GP, so I don't get so easily upset from just a little gross thing).

Couldn't sleep because everything started to itch on the thought that maybe they are some bedbugs also...
Maybe you ask yourself, well, why did you stayed? First, everything was booked. Second, we were with two other families, so not so simple to just find another accommodation. One of the family wanted to return home, but it was already late in the evening. Their room was as ugly but without the smell.
Breakfast was poor, coffee was not drinkable. 
Window glass was broken... And I can continue for hours. 
Main point: don't stay here!

The worst stay in my life

Based around a 13th century tower, rooms tastefully furnished in traditional style. Parking outside and plenty of restaurants nearby. Sully chateaux only 5 minutes walk away. Host very friendly and helpful
