We found this place by chance, for two nights on our return to the UK from Italy. A little off the beaten track, but worth it!  It is very quaint and owner Corrine could not have been more helpful.  Our room was clean and had a fabulous view from the bedroom, which was on a mezzanine floor, with bathroom and sitting area below.  Wi-fi was good too - handy for filling in passenger locator forms at the present time!!!
The restaurant was closed while we were there unfortunately, but Corrine made sure we didn't go hungry.  On request, there was a platter of cold meats, cheese, salad and wine ready for us on our return from a days sightseeing in the wonderful Alsace area!  We went for a short walk behind the hotel and jokingly said an aperitif would be nice!  Ten minutes later Corrine had followed us to the viewing point with 2 glasses and a bottle of cremant!  Above and beyond, Corrine - thank you!
Would definitely recommend this place for its character, peace and quiet yet proximity to some pretty Alsacian towns.  The area is great for walking too.  We will be returning to this little gem.

Fantastic!

All the reviews about Melkerhof are spot on.  Great retreat if you are looking for some peace and quiet, away from the tourist towns of Alsace.  The owners could not be more hospitable.  They truly work hard to give you excellent service.  The food is amazing.  For a small restaurant, the menu is diverse, and the food is some of the best we have had in France. A bit hard to find, but worth the drive, or hike, as it was in our case.

Truly a hidden gem

We stayed in Fleur de Vigne in Rodern and one of the staff recommended this place. It was a bit of a struggle to find it but once we got there we realised what a special place this is. The food was exquisite, starting with a cream soup with muscles and a a salad, then the main courses: one based on duck in a Pinot Noir sauce and scallops with risotto with truffles. The latter was the best scallop based meal I have ever had and I often have scallops. The ambiance was enchanting and the staff friendly and quick. Highly recommended.

A real hidden gem

We loved it here. We stayed two nights in the split level room, "Chanterelle" (twin beds on each level, with one shared bathroom). The views down the mountain over the valley from the top level are stunning. 

The room was simply furnished but warm and cosy with a smart contemporary bathroom. The rest of the hotel is charmingly decorated with vintage prams and cradles and milk churns and other rustic knick knacks. You can see photos of them on Instagram, #melkerhof.

Food in the restaurant is lovely. We had the choucroute garnie and bouchée à la reine,  both were delicious. The owners were very helpful with the children's requests too.

We had some difficulty finding the hotel coming from Nancy, as the signs for the hotel are only visible from the other direction (coming up the mountain from Ribeauvillé), but we got directions in the village.

The setting is beautiful and so peaceful. The crisp mountain air is lovely and the views are incredible.

The owners are very warm and welcoming and helpful, and made our stay a very pleasant one.

Warm welcome in a beautiful setting

This was our booked accommodation after a full mornings walk from Liepvre. It sits high above Thannenkirch in the cooler mountain air. We enjoyed a late lunch, as were many others, and a restful afternoon on the terrace. Some of our party wished to visit the Castle of the Haute-Koenigsbourg and asked to book a taxi but Corrine drove them there and collected them later herself. We were very impressed and grateful. Our evening meal was delicious with the suggested sharing of entrees and very regional main courses. The day had been very warm but it was most pleasant eating outside. Breakfast was also on the terrace and plentiful. The rooms are all upstairs and comfortable with very modern bathrooms. The actual bedroom is up a flight of stairs in the room so that could be a problem if there are mobility issues. We would certainly stay here again if we were in the area.

Lovely respite after a long walk.

I stayed for 4 nights in June. Incredible stay. Superb dinners every night, very good prices. Huge portions of typical Alsace food. The family is wonderful, speaking French, English and German, helpful for me because I don't speak much French! The room was fine and extremely reasonable price. Location is high up the mountain above the town, viewing entire valley below, very fresh and cool. Extremely popular for lunch as well though I was busy and never ate lunch. Zero complaints at all.
