First of all, we arrived at 3pm and found doors closed : check in would only be possible from 5pm. Fine, unusual though.

Parked into their parking the other side of the street : it's within a house that looks abandoned, really crappy.

Check in time : there's a somewhat dodgy bar next to the hotel, named cafe de la Paix, not clear whether it's part of it, nor which door is for what: hotel, restaurant,... Well. 

Inside it's old fashioned, that's for sure. Restaurant looks a little better. We're on the second floor, not very handy with the luggages. Corridors are ... Pfff.

Room is cramped, not at all the size you'd expect for 4 people, bunk beds for kids. That's linoleum on the floor, everything needs to be redone, dated from the 70's, bathroom, equipment, furniture, paint, etc. 

On the plus side, the mattresses were excellent, and despite the old style sheets, it was nice to sleep there. 

We were asked when we'd like or breakfast. Said 8-8:30. It may well be that our son had the last word with 8:30. Anyhow, 8:15 we were ready for breakfast, but there was no one in there, all doors closed. 

Went to the car but the garage was closed, no way to leave either. Finally THE guy arrived at 8:40. Breakfast was okay.

It seems the restaurant is a better experience, and as we ate outside, we got only the lesser side of it.

We were clearly the only ones in the hotel, I believe they don't have the traffic that would allow a better service.

The hotel is close to the river and has a private parking
service is okay but the rooms need to be renovated
we stayed at the third floor and there was a lot of noise coming from the Streets below

My wife and me have stayed at this hotel on quite a few times for an overnight stop on the way south,yes it's a bit basic and the staff are a bit short but we accept all of this as being "you get what you get" There is safe covered parking and the meals are great in the restaurants.Whenever we have stayed we have been left waiting(sometimes having to remind that we were waiting)for the next course but hey this is a small hotel run by (as far as I could see) the chef and his wife.
Will I stay again,yes of course,I love it.

You get what you get!

This is a very good hotel in a very interesting town,  so if you have the time to spare it is worth taking a walk around.  Close to the river and with its own secure parking (9 euros a night) it is  not huge but is very good. The rooms are spacious and the  ensuite is very good, There is a pleasant bar area and a good selection of wine available.  The food is what we came for though and it did not disappoint.  However there was quite a delay in serving and the waiting staff, while charming, were not quite as efficient as we have come to expect, often serving people in the ''wrong order''. and appearing to lack experience They had to be reminded for instance to bring our wine. This was hardly  disastrous but lacked professionalism.  Small niggles on an otherwise excellent meal.  The breakfast was excellent and varied with highly efficient staff on duty. Overall an enjoyable stay.

A good stop over

Not a smart modern hotel,but  clean and reasonable price, it is basic No bar area , Does have secure parking.. Great for one night when passing through. However the great bonus is the restaurant. They have a Chef not just a cook. Consistently very good food. So much better than that which is served in grander restaurants and hotels.with a good wine list. Always seems booked up when we try to book during the week.
