Hôtel Ronsard is in the perfect location to explore Tours. We walked around all of the old city, as well as along the river and to and from the train station. Nothing was more than a 10 minute walk. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. It was nice to have the option of breakfast at the hotel. A nice assortment of cheese, meats, fruit, cereal, yogurt, as well as a basket of croissants, pain au chocolate and pieces of baguette. The room was very comfortable, air conditioning worked well and was quiet.

Lovely spot in the heart of Tours

In November of 2022, I began searching for a hotel in Tours which could offer a room with a walk-in shower, which is a safety feature we prefer over slippery bathtubs.  The Hotel Ronsard had excellent reviews and a web site which showed a room with a walk-in shower, so I contacted the hotel by e-mail to ask if we might book that room.  I had an immediate friendly reply from Mr. Bruno Guyomarch, who assured me that I could book the room for April 8 through 11.  I had the same prompt reply from Mr. Bruno in late March when I sent an e-mail to reconfirm the reservation.

Mr. Bruno checked us in when we arrived and explained how to use a code to enter the hotel after the reception closes at 7PM.  He was very kind and personable, and I had several opportunities to practice my French with him when he greeted us as we went in and out of the hotel.  The building is charming and retains many of its original architectural features, such as the gleaming wood staircase that takes you to the upper floors.  The hotel is rated as a 2-star lodging, probably because there is no lift, but I would gladly rate it with three or four stars, based on the level of comfort and especially the gracious and genial staff, who always made us feel at home.

Our three nights at the Hotel Ronsard were pleasant.  Room 15, just one flight of stairs up from the reception, had a comfortable bed with reading lights on each side, a modern bathroom, a desk and chair, a flat-screen TV, and a window which opened out onto Rue Pimbert.  The neighborhood was quiet at all hours, and we slept well.  The breakfast offered probably the most extensive and high-quality buffet we have ever encountered in our travels through Europe, and it is served on beautiful Villeroy and Boch china.  When we sat down at our table, a kind woman brought us a basket with two large croissants, two pains au chocolat, and two tartines, all of which were lovely and fresh.  She took our order for coffee and then encouraged us to help ourselves to the buffet items, which were also fresh and plentiful: meats, cheeses, yogurts, fresh fruit and fruit juices, jams and jellies, and even two beautiful homemade cakes.  At €9.50 per person, this breakfast is well-priced and certainly much better than anything you would find in a local café.  We loved the coffee so much that we asked for a second pot each day, and it was quickly brought to our table by one of the attentive and always-smiling servers.  “Let us know if you need anything else!” they would say.

The hotel is just a short 10-minute walk from the train station, and Tours itself is an attractive, easily walkable town with many things to do.  It was a handy “home base” for us as we did day trips to the châteaux of Blois and Amboise.

Charming hotel and charming staff!

This is an absolute hidden gem in Tours France. Do not get put off by the official 2 Star rating. (They do not have 24 hour staff on duty) Friendly staff, generous rooms, modern great breakfast. In historical section great base for visiting the Loire valley.

An unexpected surprise

The Ronsard is in an exellent location,handy for rue Colbert and not far to Place Plumreau.The hotel is very clean and tidy one problem is no lift, not very good when you are on the top floor, staff are very good and provide a good service.

Weekend stay.

We loved the hotel and staff, but there are 3 men in a garage pulling a scam right next door to the hotel entrance and robbed us of a suitcase.  Pretending to ask for a tool, and while you are occupied the other guy is at your things.  After a long journey and very tired we were not on the ball and we became a victim.  The hotel closes at 7pm for check in so they operate in the early evenings.

We don’t usually stay at a hotel like this. It was cheap and clean and in a good, not great location, nothing more, if that is all you are looking for then I can recommend it. But if your French is very limited then you will need a concierge or a lobby person who can help book and direct you to places. This is not that place.  They do t even say hello when you come and go. The people are super nice though. The bed wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t super comfy either. The towels are super thin. The air conditioning must turn off automatically after a few hours because even though it was on went we went out for the evening, when we came back it was off and the room was warm and stuffy. The same thing happened in the middle of the night. That’s a deal breaker for me. And this is September can you imagine in the middle of the summer? There isn’t any water provided for the rooms or in the lobby’s ha or even any sort of coffee. There isn’t an elevator. It is quiet at night though in the neighborhood. The room itself has creaky floors so when you get up to use the bath you wake up your partner. The bathroom floor has that cheap sticky linoleum so your feet squeak on it with each step. It was just sort of a depressing place. We stayed  there 2 nights and because we were biking all day it was ok to use at night but we were so happy to leave. We will never stay here again and if you can afford it I would recommend somewhere else.

We couldn't have wished for better value in such a good location. Friendly and helpful, room spotlessly clean, fine quality linen. We were cycling and our bikes were stored safely for the night. If we return to Tours we will stay again.

After reading comments on TA we decided to ask for a triple room, because those are supposedly located on the court side 
of the building instead of the street and therefore quieter. 
The hotel itself is located on a quiet side street, we really enjoyed the calm and the closeness to everything. 
Around the corner is the Rue Colbert with many restaurants. 
The old city, the cathedral, all is within easy walking distance.

The room wasn't really big but large enough for two. The matresses were a bit too soft for us and sagging a bit in the middle. The roomm had a big enough wardrobe, a very small flat TV, adjustable A/C (temp & speed).
The bathroom wasn't as tiny as in some other hotels, it was really clean, had plenty of towels, offered a few toiletries 
(soap, shampoo...), the shower hat hot water but the water pressure was pretty low.
To balance some comments seen here on TA, the shower itself was of standard size, not too small!
Parking is available overnight free in the streets around. For longer and more secure parking; you can by a voucher at the hotel for 
a city underground parking around 2 mn. walk away (8.50 €/24h)

Staff was really friendly and helpful.
For 85€/triple room, really reasonable. Would definitely stay there again, when in Tours.

Nice quiet hotel close to everything

A short walk from the train station in a pleasant neighborhood, Hotel Ronsard is an excellent place to base a walking tour of Tours from. There are restaurants and shopping nearby and the Loire is a short walk away. The old city is likewise and easy walk to where you can sit in the courtyard and eat and/or drink. 
The rooms are decent sized and quiet. We found the bed to be quite comfortable. Breakfast was serve yourself with the usual croissants, etc. and coffee or tea was brought to each table.
We would definitely stay again.

Great location, quiet rooms, friendly service

Thus small hotel provides great customer service. The hotel is in a great location close to stores, shopping and bars. The breakfast was served from 7 am and had everything you needed. The rooms are on the smaller side but well laid out as was the bathroom.  The beds were quite comfortable. We were cycling the Euro Loire and they let us leave our bikes in a side room. The central location and the room makes this hotel a place I would stay  again if in Tours.
