TRAVELERS BEWARE: I booked a room at the Chateau Du Garden in Valensole, France through Booking.com on May 19th 2022, paying upfront almost $764 or $725.47 euros for three nights for my two cousins (F19, F26) and my little sister (F, 12). I messaged Jacques to inquire if it would be possible to accommodate a fourth person into our stay. Jacques, the owner and manager, responded the next day agreeing to the request and assuring me that all would be taken care of. 

Upon arrival, Jacques showed us the room, where the twin bed seemed smaller than the photos he had posted online. When I told him there were four people total as we agreed upon, he raised his voice and started angrily stating that our request, that I had inquired about months ago before arriving in France “was not possible.” He said that we would need an extra bed and that we would have to pay an extra $150 euros for the accommodation and breakfast for an extra person, though there was nothing of the sort stated when I made the request and he agreed to the accommodation. 

I started crying because it had been an incredibly long day of traveling, late at night, and I had made these requests months ago, where he stated everything would be “all in order.” He continued to tell me that it was my fault and that he never agreed to this, even after I showed him the messages between us. 

I have concluded that he does not know English very well, or he either forgot he agreed to this accommodation request or wanted to make more money from the situation. Regardless, as an owner and manager he should not have treated us this way. If it was handled differently, I would have stayed and figured out a plan with him, however, I was being yelled at with hungry kids in the car at 9:30PM at night without a place to sleep for all four of us, I was left no choice but to book another accommodation.

 As four young women ALONE in a foreign country where we did not speak the language, this behavior and lack of care from him was particularly disturbing. I did not want to stay in that house with that man, nor did I want my young girls staying there given his outburst. 

I booked another place that night after we got out of the Chateau, but I was exceptionally rattled, scared, and felt belittled afterwards even when he called Booking.com to say he would give us everything we had agreed upon months prior without additional costs. 

I have never been treated like this in my life, I hope no other woman stays in the Chateau with that man, who has no business being a host or manager of any kind given his temperament and treatment of paying guests. 

I am expecting a full refund ($764), for we did not stay more than an hour at his place given his unstable and frightening behavior.

Travelers Beware! NOT WORTH IT! AGGRESSIVE HOST

Chateau du Grand Jardin is a charming property painstakingly restored by the lovely owners, Mr & Mrs Glory.  We had a very large suite on the third floor (Suite Louise) which had a lsizeable terrace overlooking the village of Valensole - we felt immersed in authentic 17th century charm.  The public rooms have tremendous style and class - the breakfast room in particular is a rustic delight - stone walls, original paintings and antique furnishings, Christofle cutlery and classical music playing in the background - a great way to start a day touring the lavender fields.  Breakfast is light - French style with pastries, fruits and coffee but is more than sufficient.  The Chateau is very well located - less than 5 minutes walk to the town of Valensole for dinner/lunch and extremely well situated  for touring the lavender fields.  It also has very secure parking. Apparently they have live classical music from time to time - we missed that opportunity but it would be a great thing to do if you can make it.  Would definitely visit again.

Wonderful immersion in Provence in a charming chateau

Awful!
The place first of all from the outside doesn’t look at nice as in the pictures. The back of the building is wore down and looks like an old factory. But the worst experience was the host. I have never experienced such a stressful welcome by an extremely rude man who was apparently irritated because we showed up before the 16:30 check in time. First time ever I had this awful experience! We did not want to stay as we were feeling so badly treated by this person. I do not recommend at all to book this place. Besides Valensole is not the prettiest town in this beautiful Provence. But it is right in the middle of the lavender fields...

Extremely rude hosts and place not as advertised

 A vintage countryside French Château experience that’s priceless. The highlight is the breakfast room - elegant rustic furnishing & antique Christofle tableware, simple French meal - personalized & the croissants is so soft & flaky! We stayed in the highest floor, wide staircases, clean room & good water pressure. Pls note aircond is uncommon in old buildings, just open the window at night for the cold lavender breeze and shut it before sleep. It is very humble of the owner to welcome guest for B&B in this historical building. Please donate to help upkeep this place so others can experience Valensole lavenders & sunflowers for centuries.

Delighted with the location & experience, wish could stay longer

A last minute booking took us to this chateau which we were warmly welcomed. This chateau is managed by a lovely couple who’s passion for history is clearly displayed through their efforts to preserve and restore this historic building.

A night’s stay was definitely an experience to remember as we soaked in the ornate charm that surrounded us. In the morning we were greeted with a big smile and a generous selection of pastries served with delicious choice of jam.

We had a lovely conversation with the lady of the house as she shared with us her life, her family, her love... 
We want to wish this lovely couple all the very best as they continue to enrich the experiences of those who cross their paths.

A Night in a Castle

We were making a tour through the provence and made a first stop for two days here. The room was very nice and has the expected french charme of a chateau. Breakfast was typical french (sweet) and tasty. Also the staff was very friendly. Parking lot directly at the door. By the way, Valensole is one of the best places if you want to see the gorgeous lavender fields. 

Französischer Charme

Elegant and stately manor house / chateau.  Quiet and relaxing; happily no television.  Generous and comprehensive French breakfasts.  Delightful alfresco area underneath the chestnut trees overlooking lavender fields.  Our hosts provided information regarding local scenic attractions not necessarily included in mainstream brochures.  We saw the close-up times as added security rather than a curfew.

Central Haute-Provence

Basically a refined guest house ; therefore, you will not have the standard hotel services but probably much more ; location is very nice, an old small castle with a very beautiful garden facing a stunning view of Valensole country. Monsieur and Madame Glory are very supportive and efficient . The House has its rules : check in and return during the day after 16:30, going to bed at 22:30 as standard. Rooms and all common areas very nice (old French style and design) but very essential and all very clean ; wifi available, not TV and lift. Parking available. Wonderful breakfast served in the dining room with a real feeling of past days. Perfect location for lavande route (just in the middle of the areas with a wide choice of locations to visit within 20 km). A very special stay.

YOU STAY IN A CASTLE

We have just returned from a second stay at the Chateau, 6 years after our first stay. It was every bit as charming as we remembered. The hosts are very hospitable and we were lucky to have a 3 day package, which included a meal. The meal was stunning, and a completely different experience to previously. Our first visit included a meal for all guests around a large table, this time we enjoyed what turned out to be a private dining experience. The food was delicious and we had a very atmospheric evening. It is obvious that great thought goes into everything, from the food to the furniture and décor. The chateau continues to be renovated sympathetically. We hope to return again!
