This special place is quiet but fantastic! Very peaceful. It's close to several vineyards and village markets, so there is plenty to do, but the real treat of this place is visiting with Caroline and Jean-Luc. They are truly lovely and welcoming people. Two sweet cats and a dog will keep you company, but otherwise, it is not crowded. You can explore the whole property, hike and wander. W truly wonderful place to be!

Delightful

First of all the below review is for the vacation house "La Boussone" and not one of the apartments at La Blaque. The house is rented by the same owners but has its own pool and domaine. Images of the house are shown by the owners on this website. As such a review is legitimate.
The house is large, has 3 rooms and en suite bathrooms. It breaths the typical Provence atmosphere with white thick walls, high ceilings with wood, surrounded by green and smaller terraces. The kitchen is quite original and has this 'grandmothers' kitchen feeling' but fails the necessary equipment (try to eat a cooked egg...). A large pool is situated 60m away from the house, so be aware you can will not be able to see your kids from the house while swimming, an alarm is not installed. The silence on the domain is complete! You will sleep like a rose if you don't mind crawling little visitors at night and don't mind hard beds (remember you are in the middle of nowhere with a 2,5 km dirt road leading to the house). You might also get the visit of Izzy the dog every night...
So far the relatively good news. The house needs urgent renovation. Electric devices like the refrigorators, the oven etc are at the end of their lifecycle, the walls need to be repainted (in some parts like the bathrooms it just falls of the ceiling), windows are broken, mosquito-windows are missing, lightbulbs simply not there (put in place on simple demand though, so I wonder why they were not there in the first place), but maybe worst thing was that the house was clean as high as the eye reaches. Above eye level it was just dirty. Proof on images. I won't mention the wifi working at the speeds of a Provence snail and not complimentary (you are charged 3 eu a day!). When I mentioned this at the end of our stay the owners dropped this surcharge wisely. The pool is large but cold as it is not heated or covered at night, the pool's surrounding are unfortuantely in the same condition as the house, it needs maintenance.
Now all of this might seem not so important as if it was not that you pay a high price for what you get. It's a petty especially as there is so much potential with just little means. My hearts bleeds writing this as I believe Caroline and Jean-Luc are honest owners but here price and quality are simply not in balance.

La Boussone needs urgent renovation

We (2 adults, 3 children 0-4y) stayed in the Gite "la grange" for two weeks (September, off-season). La Blaque is a quiet estate outside of Varages, accessible by a gravel road. The Gite was very spacious (suitable for up to 4 adults and 4 children) and well equipped, with a great view from inside and from the shady terrace. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. They had a lot of tips and advices for trips and local attractions. Do not miss Jean-Luc´s observatory - and the pool. It was a great pleasure.

A great place to be

I stayed at Domaine de Lablaque for a week in september 2014. The location is very nice on a hilltop outside of varages. I stayed in the very cosy Dolmen gite. Everything was very tidy and the view from the terras was beautifull. 

Caroline and Jean Luc are very friendly and helpfull people. I had the misfortune my car broke down during my stay, so I got to stay 4 days longer at the large Gite at a reduced price. The owner also drove me to the car shop a couple of times in his cool electric car. The nightsky is also mighty impressive.

Great place!

We spent an absolutely wonderful 2 weeks at Domaine de la Blaque and were sorry the holidays went by so quickly! We stumbled upon this property totally by chance and couldn't believe our good luck. The location is amazing set up on the hill above the town of Varages in total peace and quiet. We made great use of the tennis court and the children were in the pool almost everyday despite the fact, given it was October, the water was pretty chilly! The owners are charming and went out of their way to be helpful. Jean-Luc set up the telescope one evening for us to see the moon and admire the night sky and that really was an experience we will remember. It was wonderful to feel his passion and enthusiasm. There is so much to see and do in this part of Province. We enjoyed horse riding nearby, visiting some very pretty towns, buying fresh fruit & vege at the markets, great walking and of course the unforgetable Gorges de Verdon. In just over an hour we drove down to Cassis one day and walked along the cliffs to see the Calanques. There is no doubt about it ..we will be back! Many many thanks Caroline & Jean-Luc ;-)
