Those of us with a passion for travel are always looking for new experiences, new options, new vistas. But there is also a strain that appreciates and respects near perfection, perfection perhaps being beyond  human capacity. It is the delight of landing in a place that you really want to return to regularly and in which you are welcomed for who you are. Which is a long way of saying we savor and admire the truly special and exceptional.

In a world of cookie cutter hotels and generic air bnbs, finding a place that is a labor of love, with plenty of style and substance, is a cause for celebration. Perhaps 1% of the places we stay warrant that praise. Inevitably, they are owned and run by people who have the same enthusiasm for travel as we do and have an innate spirit of hospitality that doesn't come from a corporate manual.

La Maison du Frene is that kind of wonderful place that you want to share only with your best friends. It has a few minor limitations, major if you are not able to climb stairs and I suppose if you are driving, finding a car park nearby. The suites, breakfast room and hallways are full of delightful art collected over many decades and displayed with panache. Interaction with the owners is a shared experience of travel stories and local intelligence.

You are in the heart of a medieval town with a decent share of modern amenities. Fortunately, it is not as overrun with clueless tourists as some of its neighbors. It is a good base for wider travels, or in our case, just settling in and savoring the town which has many layers of charm.

Bed and bath linens are of high quality. The standards of cleanliness are exemplary. There are no English language channels on the television, but you can pick up any necessary news on your laptop and/or phone with decent wifi.  The breakfast is delightful. It is a great place to go from being in transit to being present.

The Art of Life

La Maison du Frêne is a one of a kind B&B located on a dead end block facing the outside facing wall of the Medieval part of town of Vence.  Staying there is like living inside a museum with artwork spread across the entrance, the stairs, the dining room and your room.  We stayed in the "Vallauris" room on the second floor lavishly decorated with antiques and artwork.   The room is large and comprises the bedroom, a separate desk and reading area and a large separate bedroom.  Thiery you host, will answer all of your questions and is ready to suggest things to do.  Antoine, Guy Boilleaut's  son was also very helpful.  He offered us a reservation to the restaurant accross the street after the other couple cancelled.  There is no parking at the restaurant but there are two parking garage nearby and it is a short walk back to the B&B.  There are good restaurants 5 minutes away.

B&B La Maison du Frêne in Vence is like living in a museum

Even though we used to live in this region I hadn’t considered a B and B, but this beautiful place is something else. The place is simply stunning. The staff and owners are a delight. It represents amazing value in this region. I stayed in The Chateau suite and was surrounded by truly special decor and comfort. Perfect base to explore the region with many restaurants in the local area. The facilities are so well:considered even down to a shoe horn and torch, as well a welcome fridge, and availability of drinks to order. I’ve just arrived back home today and am already looking forward to another visit, 

A perfect haven on the Riviera

We had three nights at La Maison du Frene. Our room was lovely, very spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was great the highlight being the freshly cooked croissants. The hosts were very friendly and Thierry's local knowledge and suggestions were very helpful.
La Maison du Frene was in a great position, easy walk to restaurants  and has paid parking a short walk away.

Delightful experience .

We stayed for 4 nights in the Vallauris suite in this quirky bed and breakfast. It's location is perfect in the town of Vence, right at the entrance to the old town. Fantastic and unusual decor, run by lovely helpful people. Communication before we stayed was great.
Our room was very large, bright and airy. It had 4 windows facing out on to the street. Plenty of seating, large bed, nice decor. The walk in shower was excellent. Plenty of hot water, non slippery surface. Double sink.....all that you need by way of soaps, shampoos, tissues, hair dryer......also a kettle plus selection of teas to choose from.  The toilet area is separate to the bathroom area.
Continental breakfast was included in the room rate. It was pretty good but after 4 days of eating the same food a change would have been nice.
We enjoyed our daily chats with the owners, who went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
In the evenings, entrance to the building was by way of key code. Simple to use.
Vence is a lovely town. The bus station is about a 6 minute walk away. You can get the 650 bus to St Paul de Vence from the station and about 50 yds from the bus station on Avenue Foch you can get the 651 bus to Tourettes sur loup. 
I would gladly stay here again.


Best Location in Town.

For those of us who wish to travel deeply, there is nothing better than staying at a place that reflects the joy, love and appreciation of home, the art of discovery and 
a true enthusiasm for your guests as potential friends. True hospitality is a calling and not a corporate mission statement.  We have stayed at many places in nearly a half century of exploring Europe. They are easily in the top 5% of most memorable hosteleries.

The owners/staff of Maison du Frene are warm and welcoming and relish getting to know their clients. Their house is full of art, whimsy and thoughtful creature comforts. It is truly a one of a kind, delightful venue in the heart of a charming town overflowing with history and a beguiling way of life.

It is hard to leave, and we suspect very easy to return to. A word of caution. All the lovely suites are up several flights of stairs. If you have difficulty with stairs, there is no elevator and this might not be suitable. Of course, there is help with bringing your luggage up and down if needed.  A very fine value for the uniqueness and charm of the accomodations.

Extraordinary

Superbly comfortable and welcoming.  We stayed for two nights in the Vallauris suite which is feast for the eyes. So much to look at everywhere. But a museum it definitely isn’t. The bed linen was very good quality and the room temperature was perfect (considering how cold it was outside). The owners even gave me a little birthday gift - a very nice touch.
Great location too- I would highly recommend a stay here. 

Faultless

Our Family's started our France Holiday in Vence.
La Maison Du Frene is an excellent Guest House, located in a very old Historical Building. The rooms are very well appointed with the most beautiful artworks sitting areas and comfortable beds and very nice bedding. The bathrooms are huge with magnificent showers. Mansion Du Frene is centrally located inside the old Town within walking distance from the town square and interesting speciality shops.
Antoine's croissants, at breakfast was the best we had in France. Thierry, Guy and Antoine made us truly feel welcome. Parking inside Vence is very limited and expensive. I suggest you park your car at the Marie Antoinette Parking area search for it on your GPS. It is not covered but the cheapest option and just a couple of minutes walk from the guest house.
Maison Du Frene is definitely our best choice for accommodation in Vence. 

Best Guest House in Vence 

The hotel was recommended by a friend and I would not hesitate to recommend it also. The team at the hotel were very professional and very helpful. They had a very warm approach. It is located in the middle of Vence near many restaurants. The room was airy with an interesting theme and very comfortable. It was also quiet. It really is quite special.

Something special

We highly recommend this beautiful B&B in Vence. Designed with love, artistic flair and attention to detail, our suite was superb.  We stayed for 7 nights in Vallauris on the 2nd floor with spacious bedroom including luxurious sheets, separate living room and beautiful bathroom with its rain shower.  The location is central to local restaurants, the old town, shops and a short walk to parking (where there is a tourist price of 55€ for 7 days access). 
Thierry, Guy and Antoine are fabulous hosts.  They made our stay in Vence so enjoyable.  Nothing is too much trouble and their advice and recommendations made our trip.
