I stayed two nights while on a weekend hiking trip. I've rarely slept so well. The rooms are simple and full of pine, the way I like them. It's spotlessly clean. The owners are friendly. The prices are reasonable. There's a comfy common room with games and books. I took the half-pension plan and while the dinner wasn't anything spectacular, it was a perfectly fine meal. The breakfast is quite good by French standards, with fruit, yogurt, cheese, ham, home made bread and jams, and flaky croissants. The hotel is on the main road, but if you get a room on the back it's silent. Even on the front, I can't imagine there's much traffic at night. There are nice views in all direction. The village is quite sweet with a few small bars and restaurants, and lots of fountains.  I noticed that there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel. I gather it only passes three times a day, but in theory you could get here by bus from Grenoble or Briancon.  One note: the wi-fi was ok in the common areas, but didn't reach my room. I was way up on the top floor, so that might explain it, but do ask if this matters. Also, there's no elevator so ask for a room on a lower floor if you have lots of luggage.

Charming, old-style French country hotel

We stayed here whilst doing the GR54. Comfortable room, good welcome and good breakfast. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Even though it’s next to the road there are great mountain views on both sides of the building. Villar d’Arene was also an interesting village (the centre is pretty and has an interesting history). Merci! 

Nice little hotel

Our climbing guide recommended this family run hotel and it could not have been more comfortable and welcoming. I had a very spacious room which was essential to dry out clothes and equipment. It also had a lovely view from the balcony over the village of Villar d’Arene, a very comfy bed and a superb hot shower. The decor may be a bit dated but everything feels very authentic and homey and is clean and in working order.

We stayed 4 nights and had an absolutely delicious meal every evening. There are second helpings but it was worthwhile to leave room for the amazing cheese platter with home baked bread.

The location was perfect for our ice climbing trip and only 5 minutes drive to La Grave for essential shopping. The small village Villar d’Arene is nice and quaint with a few other choices for evening meals or a drink if you don’t want to eat in the hotel all the time.

The owner Jean-Philip and his wife are extraordinarily welcoming. It does help that they speak very good English. If you are looking for an inexpensive friendly place to stay Hotel Les Agneaux would be a good choice.

Lovely inexpensive hotel with extraordinary friendly owners

Very good value, close to La Grave and 35 mins from Les Deux Alpes. Lovely family that run the hotel. Great food, warm, comfortable rooms. Ideal base for the ice climbing above La grave in winter. Has a sauna and a hot tub. Excellent!

Family Run Hotel

Set near the skiing of La Grave and the ice climbing along the valley. This family owned place is totally charming. It may not be the most up to date hotel but everything was spotlessly clean and all the meals are home cooked, even the bread . Jean-Philippe, the owner, is probably the nicest Frenchman I have ever met. A real find, and I will certainly return.

Home from home

Stayed here for 5 nights on a cycling trip and I can't rate it highly enough! 

The hotel is in a quiet village surrounded by amazing views. The room was clean and spacious, with a balcony and ensuite with loads of hot water. Beds were comfortable and clean.

The owner was extremely helpful, they speak perfect English. There was secure storage in the hotel for our bikes, we could make a picnic lunch on the terrace and most importantly for me they understood and accommodated providing gluten free food as I am a Ceoliac. The food was amazing!!

We had to leave the hotel at 4.45 am on the morning of our event and the owner got up early to provide breakfast at 4.15 for us.

We will be back:)
