We are so grateful for our recent wonderful stay and experience at La Barde Montfort- we were there 4 nights.  Outside our window was a castle view to greet us each morning. As if that wasn't enough, Virginie and Eric were remarkable hosts- warm and friendly and willing to help with any situation.  We had a rental car issue and they immediately stepped up to help.  Great breakfast, clean and and SPACIOUS comfortable room,  and a fabulous hot shower with great water pressure.  Thanks for the stay. We whole heartedly recommend this property with it's VERY central and convenient location.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We spent a week at La Barde as a family and would wholeheartedly recommend it. The hosts have recently taken over from previous owners and are on a mission to make your stay memorable.  The place is nice, great quality/location/price ratio, and Montfort is gorgeous with its castle on an outcrop.
The “table d’hôte” is a great way to sample the local food and wine without having to drive afterwards. We particularly appreciated that they went to the effort of cooking a special “kids meal” that was appealing to little gastronomes yet based on local cuisine (I.e. duck/cheese) and not the usual fried kids fare.

A great place in Périgord Noir

Reposted to clarify some comments. 

We found the guest house to be a great base to explore the region and enjoyed use of the pool to relax after days in the sun. The room was clean and comfortable but due to lack of air conditioning, the nights were hot.   Breakfast choice was okay (seemed to be a lot of cakes) but they catered well for intolerances. You are limited however from 8:30-9:30, so just an hour window. These times were okay for us but it is quite limiting. There may be flexibility if needed, I imagine.   

The pool was large and a great temperature with loungers and parasols. But is only available from 2-10pm. So not great if you are wanting or planning morning swims at the guest house. We preferred to use the pool to cool down after a day exploring so this was fine for us.   

Hosts provided some nice recommendations for restaurants and activities and were welcoming. However they left a mark on the stay after I received an email shortly after leaving, which came across very rude and was unnecessary. We have been accused of “not respecting any of their rules” and eating in the room, which is totally not true. We only ever ate (once) on the grass outside. Learn to not accuse guests. It is now the lasting memory of the stay which is unfortunate and why I am giving three stars.

Lovely location, tastefully decorated rooms and friendly hosts in Frederique and Pascal. 
A good selection for breakfast including home made cakes and preserves.
Pascal offered lots of advice over breakfast on places to visit which was very helpful.
The pool is very welcoming too.

We enjoyed our five nights at La Barde immensely. Frederique and Pascal were so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Their recommendations on what to see and where to eat made it a truly memorable
 experience. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the Sarlat area.


Peaceful stay in the Sarlat countryside

What a fabulous place to stay !!! From our arrival Frederique and Pascal welcomed to their home.

The room was spacious. With two entrances to the room it made it easy to come and go as you wanted. 
On the first night our hosts provided a lovely charcuterie meal, which I would recommend.

The breakfast offered local cheeses and meats, Yogurts, fruit, cereal , but best of all, home made cake and preserves. All served with juice and coffee  and fresh bread. We even had eggs on a few occasions, which was a pleasant surprise. 

Frederique and Pascal knew the area very well and offered lots of advice on things to do. This was really helpful and they were keen to see what we enjoyed. 

The house also offers a lovely pool with sunbeds, which was cleaned everyday and offered a rest in the afternoons. There are local markets and restaurants . At Le Centaire the duck was unbelievable and Le Chalet the location was fantastic.

For travelling from the UK, I would recommend a stop on the way down and also a stop coming back. 

Fantastic Break !!

La Barde was a beautiful experience.  The hosts were extremely helpful and willing to share great restaurants, sites and experiences. The room was prepared for kings and queens. The breakfast was delicious with traditional choices and yet new items each day.  The pool was a delightful rest at the end of the day, as well as a place to chat with other guests.  A must consider.

Perfect stay in an amazing location.

Beautiful farm house overlooking a chateau and open fields. Great hosts and clean, large room. Only thing I would have added is more light in the room at night. Found it hard to read, but lovely place and central location

Lovely stay near Sarlat

Absolutely the best experience ever in France. Thank you to he hosts for the amazing breakfast every morning with such a delightful French buffet ( did not found that anywhere else). We were nearby everything to do some tours and visit castles in the area. What a dream to wake up with a view of a castle and to sunbath near the pool before exploring the region. 
We both 100% recommend

Our stay at La barde was wonderful. It is very clean, has spacious rooms and an abundant breakfast that has lots of fresh fruit, homemade cake or tarts and an assortment of cheese and bread.  We also quite enjoyed the pool and the peaceful setting. I  definitely recommend  La barde and am looking forward to coming back soon.
