Interestingly located next to an ancient village, this hotel appears to be quite popular among locals. We would like to extend big hand of applause to the young committed crew who look after the guests. Breakfast was good, and so were some of the meals we had. Sadly, the room we booked does not seem to meet even the most basic requirements of modern traveling. Tiny tiny toilet, basic shower facility, minimal, if any, space to store what you have to store.

Good for a bite but "la chambre familiale" cannot be recommended

We arrived too early as had not read could not book in until 5pm but sat in the shade and the children played on the swings.  The room was adequate for our needs, the children loved the mezzanine level for them.  We had some beers, local artisan and then went to freshen up before our evening meal.  Well I don't know how long we waited to be served, aperitif was offered and brought eventually!  Then an eternity later the chef came and told us what she could offer us, no menu, no prices.  We opted for a selection of meats and cheeses which was served with potatoes and salad, still not knowing at this point how much it would cost.  We were pleasantly surprised the next morning that it was 10E a head, very good value for money.  

Our evening entertainment was provided by a French couple leaving due to having to wait too long and the chef and the female having a full on argument.

Breakfast was another debacle, they had run out of croissants but the Pain au Chocolate were pleasant enough.  The jam was again locally produced and very tasty.  

The waiter/owner, not sure was very pleasant but organisation needs to be improved. 

The location was ideal for our over night stop off but we won't be returning.

Value for money

The welcome was great. 
The room beautiful for our needs. 
The surrounding area stunning. 
The evening meal, welcome to Fawlty Towers. 
The waiter was pickled. Took our order at least 4 times and disappeared, several times. 
The Chef and other staff had no idea what was going on. A Total lack of cohesion. 
The food was heavenly once it arrived, compliments to the chef. 
But having sat down at 20.00hrs and finally eating our main course at after 22.30hrs, we had to laugh. It was difficult but couldn't complain with the effort of the other staff. 
Disappointed to have to pay full price, €159, for the fiasco.

Interesting...

I went with some of my family to stay here early this month for a night, and I cannot fault it one bit, the couple that own it were very welcoming and spoke in english which helped, we had dinner and breakfast and dinner was lovely, some foods I haven't tried befor but was superb,  breakfast was your basic continental but was very nice, the rooms were really nice a lovely little sign crosstitched which gave it a homely feel, the room we stayed in as a masinet which was comfortable and enough room for everything, the only downside was very noisy bed one slight move and it would make a big noise, bathroom was nice and spacious, the landing was lovely just to sit and relax and look at the view or have a read of the books or play some of the board games, it was a lovely evening so really nice to sit outside which was lovely as it got dark, and the village I absolutely love, a lovely little quaint village yo u can walk around and enjoy the views I've fallen in love with it, didn't want to leave,  any singles in the village I would happily move there haha.

Highly recommend 

Lovely village built around the core of an extinct volcano. On the day we were there excellent views of all of the surrounding hills. Well maintained rooms with lovely food. The village is far enough from the motorway to feel out of the way without being so far as to be inaccessible. If you want to stay in the French village of your imagination this probably fits the bill.

Beautiful Massif Central

We stopped at the Auberge de La Loue for one night on our way South. The ancient village is set in amazing countryside with great views all round. The auberge is in a very quiet location, offers really good value and has an excellent restaurant which serves home-cooked local specialities. Take time to have a wander round the old village and don't stop for just one night like we did!
