We had a fantastic stay at Villa du Bonheur in the first part of July. The charming hosts and their beautifully renovated authentic house made our little holiday escape a time to never forget.  The B&B is ideally situated in the centre of Wimereux but we never had the impression to be in a busy environment.  We slept in one of the beautiful spacious rooms in the house and two nights in the small garden cottage - both are decorated with a lot of taste and offer the opportunity to retreat in silence.  The breakfast offered at the B&B had everything we needed and more ... much more.  The hosts are genuinely warm and friendly.  They helped us getting reservations in nice restaurants and had good recommendations for excursions and walks when sunny and when rain.  
Absolutely recommended!

Our stay at La Côte d’Opale at a real Villa du Bonheur

Fabulous recent stay at La Villa Du Bonheur, staying in Cottage. Dominique and Thierry are lovely people and were always keen to know our plans for the day, offering advice and places to visit. The hotel is very well located in the centre of Wimereux, very handy for beach and places to eat and drink. No onsite parking but free parking on the street is available.

Overall we had a wonderful stay and hope to return for a future visit. Thanks Dominique and Thierry for a wonderful holiday

Great stay in a perfect location

We stayed at Villa du Bonheur for 4 days with our baby (7 months). It was a really nice stay. Dominique and Thierry are very kind and think along. The cottage we stayed in was very luxury! The villa is near the sea, so it's very easy to get out for a while or go kitesurfing. Very very nice.

A beautiful cottage, close to sea, beautiful people

We were received cordially by our hosts who always a tip what to do, a recommendation for dinner while starting the day with a tasty breakfast.

We like staying in historic buildings an this house has this special  atmosphere. It is located centrally, restaurants can be reaches easily, as well as the beach. Nevertheless it is a calm place with a small, but very cosy garden to relax in.

Seaside at its best!

Nice place to stay not far from the centre of the town and 5-10 minutes walk to the beachfront. 
Clean rooms. Tea/coffee facilities in the room. Lots of space. Comfortable beds with extra pillows. Continental breakfast with local fresh bread and cheeses. Parking on a road nearby- subject to availability but we don’t have problems. There always space but not sure if it is in the season. Parking is free everywhere except high street. 

Pleasant stay

Had a very nice stay in this beautiful area. Warm welcome! Nice large clean room with cool wooden floors and a modern bathroom. The people of the B&B helped us with suggestion about good restaurants (they even made the reservation for us) and walking tours. 

Super cosy B&B with friendly people

Lovely, large clean room with private bathroom. The owners were welcoming and friendly. They served a very nice breakfast with fresh pastries, cheeses and fruit. The location is ideal, close to town and the beach. I highly recommend staying at this delightful french home.

Wonderful Stay!

Really nice people,very clean large room, large comfortable bed, excellent breakfast. Very welcoming hosts. The Villa is well placed in a quiet road between the town and the promenade. Lots of restaurants near by so easy walking distance. Would really recommend!

Delightful French home

We had a room the last minute and are very pleased with the room (Birdie), the staff (owners), location and breakfast. 
Very nice room, wooden floor and spacious shower. Perfect for a couple. Delicate colour in white and beige/grey, clean and those little extras that does it all; water bottles on each bed table, q-tips, lovely soap, two BIG towels, two smaller and even two cloths. 
Breakfast with all we needed - warm coffee, fresh juice, baguette and pastries, marmalade, butter, egg, fruits.
Thierry and Dominique are very polite and helpful.
We would love to come back!


Absolutely lovely!

We (two young girlfriends in our early 60s 😊) visited during the corona crisis in July 2020 (2 nights) so part of our less positive feelings may have been related to that.

We had been apprehensive of booking at Villa du Bonheur for 2 reasons mainly: one was the lack of parking facilities and the other was the fact that the Eagle room (2 separate beds) had an “open bathroom”.

After having been reassured that they would put a screen between the room and the bathroom we decided to go for it. We did not find it very practical, having to move the wooden screen, making sure it did not fall over etc. but we are really easy going travellers so we managed. The house and garden looked lovely but we were not given any information about whether we could use any part of either the house or the garden.

We were met at the door by the couple in a friendly although a bit reserved manner. The Eagle room is on the second floor up a rather uncomfortable stairway (steep). Host Thierry did not offer to help us with our luggage but as we started to go up the stairs, his wife Dominique hurried to assist my friend, in a rather worried way. We felt her aim was to prevent us from damaging the walls (which we would not have done, evidently!) rather than help us. We found the Eagle room quite cosy but not very practical. We had to find out how the light switches worked (first you have to switch on the light switch on the wall and then on the lamp stand itself). There is very little light in the room, even with all the lights on. The lamps near the beds only provide a dim, cosy glow which is insufficient for reading. There is only a mirror above the sink; no half or full length mirror. We have never had a room with less space to store our things. There was not 1 single shelve, cupboard, drawer to put clothes or other things, only a large closet to hang clothes. We could have used more clothes hangers (because there was no other way to store anything) but did not know how to contact the owners (other than calling them with our own cell phones, which we thought might inconvenience them). The shower was excellent. The weather was very sunny so there was enough light in the bathroom but that may be different on darker days. There’s a senseo machine but no cooker or tea facilities. The weather was in the low 20s Celsius and very sunny and already the room felt rather warm. We felt it would become quite hot if outside temperatures were higher, without air conditioning. There was a note in the room saying that the room had been disinfected according to COVID-19 standards and that they would not be coming into the room again, unless we asked them to. We were OK with this, evidently, but I would suggest that they put an extra garbage bin, because the tiny one that was there was barely sufficient and had to serve as garbage bin for toilet, bathroom and room..

Breakfast was nice, lovely French bread and eggs to your liking, good coffee (better than what we are used to in France) and very tasty freshly squeezed orange juice. There were small things that could have been better (hot milk for a "latte" for example). The breakfast room was pleasant. We couldn’t quite put our finger on it but throughout our stay, we did not have any feeling of warmth or genuine interest. Or maybe they thought we did not need any extra attention, which is actually true because we don’t like owners who are too much “present”. The first morning at breakfast, there was one particular "incident" which left us feeling uncomfortable. Thierry came to ask us whether one of us had made a phone call in the chair right outside our room. I had indeed made a call of about 15 min at around 21:00 hrs (!!) in a normal voice (no laughing or shouting) and had heard someone in the room next to ours rattling the key in the keyhole from the inside. I had thought nothing of it, thinking they were trying to open or close the door. However, we were rather sternly asked not to make phone calls there anymore in order not to bother other guests! Anyone who know us, knows we are the most considerate of guests you can think of. The cracks in the wooden floors with every step you take make more noise than a simple conversation, at 9 pm! We felt chastened. And why put a chair and table there when you're not allowed to sit in it, except when you're not uttering a word?

Parking can be a problem but we managed, although one night we had to tour the surrounding streets for about half an hour to find a space. We felt safe throughout our stay but of course your car is in a public street which is always a small risk. Wimereux itself is very nice and the entire Côte d’Opale area is wonderful.

But the one thing that made us not want to return here was the way our bill was settled. When we asked whether it was possible to split the bill in two and that we would each pay with our card, Thierry said that it would be better if we paid cash, because "they were low on cash". When we said we did not carry that much cash (147 euro per person) he said very matter-of-factly: “Oh, but there’s an ATM right around the corner (which was true) so you can get it there". We were so dumbfounded that we stepped outside like two good little girls, went to withdraw cash and came back to pay. We did not receive any bill, only a post-it which said “2 x 147”. When we came home and checked the amount we were charged, it seemed that the 147 euro included the tourist tax! So we settled the bill completely unofficially, “under the table”, but they did charge the city tax amount anyway! It all happened so matter-of-factly that we did not protest but it left a bad taste in our mouths. Also, we stay at this type of B&B quite a lot and have never had hosts who do not at least enquire whether we need help with our cases. After all, except for the breakfast, they did not have to do anything for us during our 2 days’ stay, not even make our beds. My rating takes the corona situation into account. Apart from the payment there was nothing really wrong with this B&B but we feel there are much better options. During my previous stay at Côte d'Opale, I stayed at B&B Le Colombier at Wissant which scores much better over all (friendliness, comfort, room, breakfast, private parking, etc) but unfortunately does not have twin rooms.
