Unbeknownst to them at first, they finally accepted our order. It was simple and moderately good but they didn't expect to see the price again.

It's not top but it's coming off.

It's simple.

It's a simple, rustic hotel, old-fashioned but clean rooms, a little noisy because it's clean in the bathroom, the owner is hospitable, kind, we had a very good meal, a very good breakfast, a very good breakfast, a very good breakfast, a very nice lake, a much more wild and less crowded with tourists than Gerardmer.

Rustique

I was expecting a rustic but proper establishment. As soon as we arrived it was a place where they wondered if we were going to stay or run away, non-existent reception, very old restaurant room and not very clean, when in the room, clean but very old with an out of age bathroom. The meal really leaves to be desired, after a long wait, I expected good small local dishes, but on the contrary, the soup came straight out of an industrial brick as well as the croutons that accompanied it, the typical dish came out of the freezer, from the waiting bar, looked like a mixture of potatoes and a tasteless white liquid, very disappointing.

Not too bad.

No welcome, you have to wait for the waitress to come to you. A dress that has nothing to do with a real restaurant service. When you order. The waitress makes derogatory thoughts. Presentation of dishes not very pleasant including meals.

Dissatisfaction

We spent a week in February in this simple but warm family hotel and we will be back with pleasure! The staff is very nice. A special guest in Marine who gave us a great stay. It is a charming family that took care of us, advised us on great visits. The full pension formula is perfect for unrestricted holidays. The meals are plentiful and really delicious! It's a great stay.

It is a basic hotel and it wasn't very warm at night. The heat was low and couldn't be turned up. Luckily, I packed my super warm pajamas. There also seemed to be some problems with the plumbing. 

The breakfast consisted of refrigerator-cold croissants and cold bread with marmalade and butter as well as coffee with milk and orange juice. The bread was good and tasted fresh, but the croissant was cold and hard. There is no elevator, so keep it in mind when you are packing. We didn't expect much, but we would have liked to at least have a fresh croissant and decent heating.

The best part about this hotel is its vicinity to La Bresse-Hohneck ski slopes. It is about 8 minutes away. This is the only reason we chose this hotel. There is no luxury whatsoever here, but if you're going skiing, you know that every minute counts as a lost parking space in La Bresse, so it's nice to be able to drive there in under 10 minutes. So if you skip breakfast and dress warmly at night and perhaps even bring a better pillow you will be fine and not pay a lot for it.

We knew it would be basic, we just didn't know how basic it would be. But it was fine. All we really wanted was to be close to the slopes and that's exactly what it was.

We had booked two nights in Gerardmer but left as over run with tourists and a carnival. Found l"Eau Vive and it was perfect. A short walk from a lovely lake and surrounded by thickly wooded hills of the Vosges. Our room was spacious and quiet. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there and the first two were very nice. Breakfast, as usual in France, was rather skimpy. Nice wine and drinks and the owners were helpful although I had to use my French to communicate. We wished we had spent more time there.
