We stayed her for two nights at the end of a long French Polynesia holiday since we wanted to be closer to the airport. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The swimming pool was very clean and nicely warm. Previous reviewers mentioned noise from the garage next door but we did not experience this. The gardens are very well kept and there is a large variety of local plants. The nearby beach looked very nice and pension is within walking distance of the outstanding Museum of Tahiti and the islands.

A good value place to stay in Tahiti

Great place to stop over before going home. Very good introduction to the hotel and the area. Good breakfast and great pool. Nice garden with flowers, chicken and cute dogs. 

We got help getting a taxi and it was always easy to get in contact with the owners. 

Possible to borrow snorkelling gear.

Great stay

I'll admit I didn't research Tahiti as well as I should have done.  I wasn't prepared for the traffic for starters.  So if you stay several kilometres out of Papeete just be better prepared than me.  Nothing particularly wrong with this place apart from a cockerel crowing at all hours!  Though after being in Australia and New Zealand for 3 weeks the switch to a foreign language was a struggle!  Room was fine though surprised when housekeeping turned up when I'd only arrived in middle of the night!  The beach (plage) is nearby but across a busy road.  The petrol station next door has a shop with plenty of food choices and an ATM.

A few days in Tahiti

Very reasonably priced. Clean and functional
Kitchen. Right next to busy road with all night gas station that is loud and brightly lit. Far from most of sights and minimal
Bus service. Relaxed atmosphere, pool was very small and limited wifi. Host speaks minimal English

Doesnt feel like Tahiti

Clean, humble and reasonably priced with lovely personable hosts, this was a great place to stay and unwind. We had a beautiful pool surrounded by tropical fruit trees. Across the street was a lovely park snd beach in easy walking distance and next door, a little supermarket attached to the grocery store supplied wonderful French baked goods. Within a kilometre we’re more stores and little restaurants and everything one would ever need. No need for a car here and it’s a quick taxi ride to the airport.

A little piece of paradise

Vincent and the ret of the staff were very accommodating, friendly, and made themselves available even on Sunday afternoons. The snorkeling right across the street at the beach is also beautiful, and the pool was refreshing after a long day. Very close to a 24 hour gas station so it was convenient even though it wasn't in papeete. Only note is that the wifi is weak in the bedrooms. Great value.

Would Return

It is in fact set round a lovely swimming pool in tropical gardens. The rooms were clean and brightly decorated but a bit tired. Despite having a Kitchenette no kettle so had to boil water in a pan! The breakfast was first rate, nice to talk to other guests. Vincent and his staff were very friendly and helpful recommending a good restaurant nearby for dinner. Could be an alternative to those wishing to base themselves in Tahiti as airport taxis can be arranged and it perhaps better for some not to be in the town 

Friendly pension - not in the beach!

Basically, the check out time is 10:00 am and when it was exactly 10:00 am a woman knocked on the door requesting to leave the room. I have never seem something so stupid and impolite in my uncountable travel life. 
DON NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Impolite reception and attendance   

Pension de la Plage is located literally across the main ring road from Toaroto Beach Park in Puna'auia on Tahiti. This lodging has a wall around it, but traffic noise is an issue starting at around 6 am. The rooms are modest with rather hard mattresses but are air conditioned. The friendly and helpful proprietor said the pension has potable water. There are a few parking spaces inside the compound, and the gate is secured overnight.

   Toaroto Beach Park is small, but gives good access to the lagoon quite close to the Le Meridian Hotel. Snorkeling here is fine with a potentially endless area to explore. There is good visibility with many coral heads to visit and an ample variety of small fish. Unfortunately, much of the coral is dead and covered with brown algae seaweed. This is a common situation now in these islands. There are signs warning not to swim during high surf on the distant outer reef, and we did notice a longshore current near the beach which diminished among the coral heads further out. We did not see any stonefish, but I suggest wearing strong reef shoes when wading anywhere in French Polynesia just in case. We found Toaroto Beach Park to be a perfect introduction to underwater Tahiti with its protected lagoon and lovely views of Moorea.

   There is a shopping area about a km to the north of the Pension with several restaurants and a supermarket. We enjoyed Chez Remy. The Mobil station is within 50 m, but its store is limited. The museum in Puna'auia is nice, but it is currently being remodeled. Note that walking along the main road may be hazardous due to heavy traffic and a deep vertical ditch along the roadside.

   We only stayed for two nights, but I would return to this lodging. It is a good budget/mid-range choice when staying near Papeete if you want to snorkel.

Convenient lodging near snorkeling beach

Room was clean.  Very low key.  A good spot to rest after a long flight and before going on to adventures.  Quiet beach within walking distance.  Breakfast was fresh fruits, baguettes, butter, jam, coffee or tea.  Friendly, non-intrusive staff.
