So, we were on our way through the middle of Germany wanting to avoid all the chain and unpersonal hotels you find scattered along the German highway. We found this gasthof via google. Curious for pictures, we googled further to find more info and consequently stumbled upon these very very frightening German reviews (spooky house, moist in every corner). We got so put off that we decided last minute, very late night, to sleep in a Rennschuch, a more then ordinary hotel (good bed no charm). Intrigued though by these bad reviews, we did visit the landgasthof Lindhorst the next day. The site that met us did not match at any point the bad reviews!  Yes, the building is old. Yes, the man can hardly walk. Yes, yes, their English is crooked. But the authenticity is priceless - adventures and stories and imagination emerge from this place.  A friendly lady showed us the rooms, that looked very clean, - looking out on the beautiful green fields that surround the gasthof. Personally, we felt ridiculous not having chosen this place to stay the night based on the bad reviews and want to stress out that they really don’t match the situation is it is now, anno 2017.
We will definitely keep this place in mind next time we drive through Germany!!

Don't be a sissy - go for adventure!

We looked for this hotel in Adelebsen but through our Sat Nav found it about five miles from the town in a hamlet which consisted of a few houses on one street in a rural area.  The hotel looked dilapidated from the outside and we wondered how it was going to be, Parking in an inner courtyard through the old coaching entrance, the windows were in a poor condition, there were cobwebs and peeling paint.  We tentatively came back around the front and entered the main building to find an elderly gentleman in the bar.  He didn't speak much English but when we tried our German he was both friendly and helpful and together we managed to converse.  Some locals also joined in and it gave a much better atmosphere.  We were given a key to our room which was in an annexe behind the main building facing the courtyard.  We were escorted to a staircase which led to a long corridor and our room.  The room itself was large with a spacious bathroom.  The carpet was almost new and the décor intact although most seemed to date from the 60's.  The linen was clean and coloured towels provided.  The only toiletries were two little pots of shower / shampoo gel - no soap.  The shower itself was simply a tiled area with no cubicle and with a curtain suspended and tied back.  We slept well in our bed and the following morning went down to breakfast at the time we requested (we were asked the night before when we wanted it). The other diners were all German.  The dining room had crisp white tablecloths on it decorated with loose felt butterflies scattered so they made the effort to make it nice.  The room next door was laid out with breakfast items as it was self service.  Warm rolls, warm hard boiled eggs, cheese, cold meats, jams etc.  One could feel that the TLC was there.  We had already eaten on arrival so did not sample an evening meal.  That evening, we had a walk along the village which had a mixture of houses and farm buildings all very well kept.  It was very peaceful and relaxing and made a pleasant change to the bustle of a city and modern but impersonal hotel.  I think it is possible that the owners are now getting old and therefore although mostly maintained money will not be spent in refurbishments. Used in the evenings by locals in the bar who seem to know each other.
If you are looking for a modern hotel, this is not for you but if you want a simple, peaceful and relaxing place then it is ideal.  Make the effort to be kind and it will be reciprocated.

Not modern but quiet and peaceful

The lesser I say about this place, the better it is. From looking and feeling like a haunted house (there seems to be nobody around, and nobody who speaks English), to not even basic amenities in rooms to pretty much getting attitude for walking in late ...but what really took the cake was access to the train station.. not only is it next to impossible to explain the place to taxi drivers but it also takes over 30 minutes from the nearest train station. Not a place to stay if you come in late and need to leave early... will be a struggle. All in all an experience I would not like to repeat nor recommend :(

What you see is NOT what you get!

We stayed in this hotel for one night, and it was a really pleasant experience. The rooms are simple but clean, and have excellent value for money.  Also, the food is the definitely the best part - you've got to try the Schnitzel there! Nice location, nice staff, superb food - I'd absolutely recommend it.

Would recommend

Really, the only thing I can say about this hotel is that is average. The restaurant, on the other hand, is very good.

Rooms are big enough, but some may have lighting problems -- mine had an equivalent of candlelight in the bathroom. Other than that, they are quite clean and comfortable.

One thing you need to know is that breakfast may be late, and only one person from staff speaks English.

The location of this hotel is pretty good -- it's near Kassel, but far away enough to be secluded and quiet. It's perfect for travellers who can't book, say, Etap (sorry, Ibis Budget, as they're now called) in Kassel or want to pay even less.
