We got a very nice and spacious room with a balcony. Clean and good bathroom. Breakfast was fine and hostess very nice and helpful. Only negative would be that the free parking is about 500 meters away. Good wifi. 

Very nice rooms!

After cycling around the island of Ruegen, we wanted to stay in a quiet location, yet not too far from the city. Before crossing the bridge into bustling Stralsund we came to Altefaehr, a very small town across the waterway from Stralsund. There is basically only one hotel in this village, but what a find! The family run hotel is 100 m from the beach which has a brand new promenade. The management is very friendly and helpful, Some of the very spacious rooms have views of the skyline of Stralsund. The beds are very comfortable and the washroom fixtures are modern and functional. Being away from the noise of the big city the nights are quiet and allow for peaceful sleep. The highlight of a stay there must be the break feast buffet. There is a great variety of choices, from fresh fruit salad to tasty morsels of fish and other offerings in addition to the regular break fast fare. This is a great place for a quiet night yet close enough to take the little ferry to downtown Stralsund.

Across the Water

Very friendly hotel-owner. Clean, large room with a balcony (view against a backyard!).  Shower was small and high above the floor might be difficult for some to step in and out of.   The photos of the view is from the roof-balcony! The Hotel is not located direct to the beach! Good, familiar breakfast.
No elevator. Roof-balcony is on the 3rd floor. Parking can be "tricky." No restaurant in the Hotel,  but the breakfast was truly outstanding.  Only 3 possibillities in the Village to eat, one Greech, one Fish/Beach and one "very simple." food in all 3 was average nothing special. 
Hotel area is somewhat isolated and you had best take the fairy across the bay to Rugan.  Enjoyable trip with lots to see including aquarium.  For us one or two nights is definitely enough and then take the 30 minute drive to Benz where there is more of a beach and vacation atmosphere.  No problem with on street parking for free.
