We were visiting the local river valley to visit some of its castles, and to get some hiking practice under our belts. This meant we were looking for a quiet place where we could actually get a good night's rest so that we could do more hiking the next day. Eifelhof fit the bill perfectly!

Yes, it's in a tiny village. Yes, there's nothing else in the village. But do you need more? We got a small apartment (great bathroom with huge shower, well-equiped kitchen, lounge room, spacious bedroom) and it was right upstairs from the small village-grocery (do you like fresh local bread for breakfast?) and the restaurant (do you like just going upstairs to your room after lots of wine, instead of having to drive / be driven?) In fact, the food was so great that we just ate in all three nights that we staid there. We required gluten-free food, and while there weren't many options that were originally gluten-free, the staff was eager to suggest changes to dishes to accommodate our needs. Excellent. And even though it was in a small village, the eatery was rather lively, especially at friday night, when the patio was filled with locals who all greeted each other when they came and went, yet you never felt like a stranger.

As already mentioned, the staff was very friendly. There was a private parking spot. The village had a strategic position in between the various attractions that we wanted to visit. I don't know what else I should say, except for: if you don't want to go out at night, then this might be the perfect place for you!

Minor downsides: you have to pay in cash, so make sure to pass by a bank the day before leaving. Also there's no internet connection, but if you're there to experience nature and local culture, do you really need it?
