We had lunch there on the way through due to a tip at the gas station and were enthusiastic about the noodles. This was perfect, excellent Italian cuisine, as you rarely find it! It is also remarkable for the size of the portions and the good price ratio. We do not know the hotel, but we can recommend the restaurant for pasta dishes. On our next trip through Birkenfeld, a stop in the Oldenburg yard is compulsory for us. As I said, we cannot rate the hotel, but since TripAdvisor does not list the house under the restaurant category (which is incomprehensible to us), we give this rating in the hotel section.

A top address for pasta dishes

We were greeted very kindly. Lunch was served in the very simple and well-attended Roman Room. Large selection of dishes, large portions. As a highlight, Lebanese pizza was offered. On Thursdays there are noodles, on Friday the pizzas for 6€. Daily changing lunches. There are some vegetarian/dishes and a gluten-free pizza breakfast buffet (from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.) only with pre-registration prices: cheap

It's simple.

The Italian owners are most friendly and happy people.  Food is excellent and lower cost than most.  Room costs are also lower. Breakfast buffet is typical German, but you can get what you need.  Bed mattresses are harder and less padded then most hotels.  WiFI is spotty and may not work at all in the evenings.  Quiet location, however still recommend ear plugs for sleeping due to early morning church bells and some louder sounds from the streets.  Short drive to Idar-Oberstein and the Felsenkirche and Schloss Idar-Oberstein. About 1 hour from Trier and the 2000 year old Roman gate "Porta Nigra" and Luxembourg.  Nice quiet getaway.  

Friendly Staff, good food and great value

I lunched here in their Restaurant Pizzeria Römerstube. The food was disappointing. My dish of mushroom with pasta was unattractive, poorly constructed and somewhat stodgy. Service was also less than optimal.

Italian style food in a comfortable environment but of modest quality

On our arrival we were greeted by a staff member who spoke only (!) Italian. Communication was not possible in German or English. We found out that these were the wrong rooms. After we left for a short time, there was also a staff member who spoke German, so we got the right rooms. However, these did not match the description when booking (two single beds instead of French double bed, no water boiler, no fan on the room, this had to be requested via the reception, etc.) The rooms were old and renovated (including a broken fleece in the bathroom). Also, the rooms were not particularly clean. When we returned in the evening, the boss asked very curiously if we were at a certain place of celebration.

Evaluation of the Hotel Oldenburger Hof

I have stayed here many times over the years, the bedrooms are ok and are
being updated gradually. The prices have gone up considerably over the last two and the refurbished rooms are now classed as comfort rooms. Service at breakfast is poor
as coffee and tea are not offered but placed on the side for you to discover. The fare
On offer is of the minimal sort. They are near a bakery but offer factory frozen reheated
rolls. We popped into the bakers and bought some delicious German rolls as the the offered type were dire. There is little choice in Birkenfeld so I probably will be back.
One last comment the Wifi is non existent.

At best average

I had a comfortable room for 57 euros with breakfast. The room is clean, simple and relatively newly furnished. The bed is very low. Unfortunately, for breakfast only backpacks and very little choice. When I was going to count the night before, nobody had time and I was told I could pay from 6:30 in the morning. The next morning there was only a helper at breakfast who told me that I had to wait another hour. Everything was very unprofessional. If I had the opportunity, I would spend the night elsewhere.

For the price okay

Very pleasant weekend. Reservation was straightforward. Prices were OK. TOP location in the village of Birkenfeld in the middle. Own parking lot. Multiple accesses with own key possible. Rooms newly renovated, but unfortunately the beds too low for people over 50. Everything was straightforward and good.

An overnight here costs 59€ for 2 persons.
Breakfast costs 7€ per person extra.

We were not expecting anything from this kind of hotel EXCEPT cleanliness.
The room itself is clean and newly renovated.
There are basic bottles of handwash, shampoo and soap. 
The WIFI is available for free BUT the staff knows nothing about the password and we got the wrong one. So we did not use it.
The breakfast is a basic continental breakfast with availability of eggs, that you can order.
The hotel is without air-conditioner, which is pretty normal. Nevertheless it was extremely hot now in Germany (38 degree C). Hence we had a hard time to bring ourselves to sleep.
We were waken up by the church bells:).
So the alarm clock is unnecessary.
