We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burg Katzenstein.  The castle has an extensive history that is presented very well by its caretakers.  They have obviously put a great deal of effort and consideration into how to best display the historical treasure trove within this historic landmark.  The owners were gracious and attentive though gave us space to explore the castle which was an experience of a lifetime.  They are a very nice couple.  They even gave our son a couple of small special items on our departure as a kind and thoughtful impromptu gesture.  The breakfast, though not extensive, was very well done and filling.  Our room was huge and also setup very nicely.  The prices were reasonable as well.  We are fortunate to have had the pleasure to experience this special place.

Amazing Experience 

In transit from Frankfurt to the Alps we decided to stay one night in Burg Katzenstein. A lovely medieval castle that has a few hotel rooms. We loved the friendliness and hospitality of the staff and the spaciousness of our two family rooms. Each room slept four with ease and loads of space.

The breakfast the next day was included and very nice. It felt like we were really the guests of the owners and the lady of the house made sure she did everything she could do to make it perfect. From freshly makes hot chocolate for the kids to small souvenirs to take home.
After breakfast we were invited to tour the castle before we drove off to the next stop.
Definitely a recommend a stay at Burg Katzenstein for a family with small children. They will love it.

One night back in time

The hotel was absolutely fantastic! Our room was very spacious and breakfast was great too! After breakfast we got to explore the castle which had been beautifully restored. The staff were very welcoming and friendly too! This is definitely somewhere to visit again! 

Fit for a King!

A bit out of the way but very worth the drive. We stayed in mid May and arrived on a Monday. The Castle is not open on Mondays and there was only two other guests. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. The caretakers, a lovely hard-working couple opened up the castle and let us explore. We ordered dinner quite late and not only was it not a problem it was delicious! We ate outdoors and enjoyed the sunset. Our room was beautiful, the beds comfortable and we were nice and warm. Breakfast was perfect. I highly recommend adding this to your experience in Germany! On the drive there we were driving through a very small town. We had to stop to allow a family of farmers who were bringing their milk cows home for the day. Father and son on bikes and Mom and Grandpa walking behind. A beautiful sight and you will not see this type of thing if you stay on the autobahn!

We were not sure what to expect

This is not a place you just happen to drive by - this is out of the way; BUT well worth the extra effort.
We came here by chance - but the welcome and enjoyment was worth the effort.
The service is gracious and "family" - the food is very good and our room in the castle was VERY large.
They are restoring the castle and the work done until now is impressive, as is the museum.
If you are in the Augsburg area and need a welcome change!! - go to Burg Katzenstein for the night - but come in time for dinner in the court yard.

Knight for a night

We booked this room on a whim. Traveling through Germany, we had wanted to stay in a castle, but thought it would be too expensive.  To find this one at a great price was so fun! 
You can read the castle history somewhere else, but the short version is that it’s one of the oldest of its kind, it was in disrepair for a number of years.  After a fire several years ago, an entrepreneurial older couple bought this gem, and has been restoring it, renting out rooms, and celebrating special events there.  ( Christmas market, etc) 

We ate a delicious dinner there the night we checked in. Regional cuisine, and delicious.  Be sure to order a salad— it comes with a variety of pickled veggies as well as fresh lettuce and is divine.

The breakfast buffet was delicious, and abundant.  (Try the dark brown rolls with some butter and jam!)

The castle itself is more restored than we had thought it would be, and we had fun poking around and giving ourselves a tour the morning after our stay.  

The room was good.  Our first impression was that the rooms were clean and very spacious, but not very castle-like.  All tile floors, and It could have been a hotel room anywhere.  

The biggest problem with that is the sound really carries.  Anytime someone talked in the hallway, not only could we hear it, but it echoed through our room.  I think it’s nothing a carpet runner in the hall and some area rugs in the room wouldn’t fix. (or maybe a towel under the door).  

All in all, we loved it, and would go back again. We were impressed by the castle, and definitely by the industrious owners, who are working hard and still managed to make us feel as if we were the most important guests in the kingdom.
