Obviously an old hotel, but the problem is that it's old, poorly maintained, the room furniture is very bad, the owners are extremely unpleasant and unwelcoming, unfortunately a disappointment, and for breakfast there was no choice of fruit except for some old (almost rotten) apples.

I have to say, I didn't really know much about the castle, but I was pleasantly surprised. There is a lot to see, the tour (where you can see everything that is important) is very educational. The prices in the Burgtavern are also not expensive, the most expensive ( onion roast) food costs just 19.80€. The owner of the castle is very friendly and hospitable.

Pleasantly surprised

We have connected our second visit to the castle with a night out and a visit to the Christmas market. Especially when the twilight in the castle court enters, it will be really Christmas - even without snow. In the castle court there are few stalls. These are distributed in the castle in the different halls and rooms. Numerous sophisticated things are offered. The castle is beautifully decorated inside and outside. There were several performances for the children, which were also nice for adults. Before the castle there was a fire show at 20:30 a. We noticed the particularly lovely decor in the castle only at the quiet Wednesday's, which was installed by the early wine itself. The sympathetic host was again on the morning of the wedding, which we enjoyed on the eve of the last Christmas Eve, which we remembered as a beautiful restaurant.

To the Christmas market at Castle Katzenstein

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burg Katzenstein.  The castle has an extensive history that is presented very well by its caretakers.  They have obviously put a great deal of effort and consideration into how to best display the historical treasure trove within this historic landmark.  The owners were gracious and attentive though gave us space to explore the castle which was an experience of a lifetime.  They are a very nice couple.  They even gave our son a couple of small special items on our departure as a kind and thoughtful impromptu gesture.  The breakfast, though not extensive, was very well done and filling.  Our room was huge and also setup very nicely.  The prices were reasonable as well.  We are fortunate to have had the pleasure to experience this special place.

Amazing Experience 

It was extremely amusing to go back to the time of the knights and the lady of the castle. The evening began with an interesting tour of the castle with various entertaining details of the castle's history. The food was genuine and good from the ground up. Friendly and thoughtful service. Between the menus, a funny minnesinger provided a varied entertainment. As a small criticism, I would call the cheese at the very end. It was almost tasteless. It should be a more refreshing cheese after the good knight's meal.

The couple who managed and maintained the castle were very friendly and had a very positive attitude. During our short stay at Castle Katzenstein, everything worked out. We had the castle and the ancient rustling wooden stairs to the room alone made the castle feel even more. The decoration of the castle room was exactly to our liking and three windows gave us a great view. A few steps away from the room were two knightly armour. When you walk through the castle you will see the lovingly designed information signs and so anyone who wants to discover the castle without a guide can do a lot. The climb to the towers on the stairs, partly very steep back of my woodwork, is an uncertainty and something to be done. This is also a matter of respect for the early morning and evening, and we have to preserve this for the public.

A Castle to Watch and Marvel

The castle offers a great entrance into the Middle Ages. Since the facility is privately operated, entrance is justified. A free tour is also included in the price, in order to climb the steep stairs of the mountain peace. However, the repeated requests for further donations - ascent to the mountain fred, dismantling of the toilet.... The castle restaurant, where you can strengthen yourself at reasonable prices, was also friendly and good.

A wonderful family trip.

We were a larger group of about 70 people, including 14 children aged 2 to 13. The food was served quickly and the service was excellent. The food was very good and the ambience was a beautiful setting for our Christmas party. Everything was accessible even with a wheelchair-friendly toilet.

Even in gardening, we didn't know. Okay, signs are hanging, but outside? Then we were more unfriendly, complimented with insults, Can't you read signs. We couldn't recommend dog food, unfortunately, we couldn't say anything about food.

Dog haters

We booked this room on a whim. Traveling through Germany, we had wanted to stay in a castle, but thought it would be too expensive.  To find this one at a great price was so fun! 
You can read the castle history somewhere else, but the short version is that it’s one of the oldest of its kind, it was in disrepair for a number of years.  After a fire several years ago, an entrepreneurial older couple bought this gem, and has been restoring it, renting out rooms, and celebrating special events there.  ( Christmas market, etc) 

We ate a delicious dinner there the night we checked in. Regional cuisine, and delicious.  Be sure to order a salad— it comes with a variety of pickled veggies as well as fresh lettuce and is divine.

The breakfast buffet was delicious, and abundant.  (Try the dark brown rolls with some butter and jam!)

The castle itself is more restored than we had thought it would be, and we had fun poking around and giving ourselves a tour the morning after our stay.  

The room was good.  Our first impression was that the rooms were clean and very spacious, but not very castle-like.  All tile floors, and It could have been a hotel room anywhere.  

The biggest problem with that is the sound really carries.  Anytime someone talked in the hallway, not only could we hear it, but it echoed through our room.  I think it’s nothing a carpet runner in the hall and some area rugs in the room wouldn’t fix. (or maybe a towel under the door).  

All in all, we loved it, and would go back again. We were impressed by the castle, and definitely by the industrious owners, who are working hard and still managed to make us feel as if we were the most important guests in the kingdom.
