This hostel is the worst place. The owner of the hostel did everything to ruin our staying in this beautiful city. 
We knew that the time for check-in was very limited, however we informed the hotel in advance that we would come late, at 01:00 at night, which was OK for the owner according to his letters. So we booked and pre-paid the room. He promised to send all the information to our mobile phone but something went wrong. At 12:30 at night after driving the car for 7 hours we came to the shut doors of the hostel... Nobody opened the door and nobody picked up the phone when we called the emergency number of the hostel. So we had to find a new place to sleep at night. 
In the morning we tried to enter this "Narnia" again, but the doors were still shut. The good thing was that the owner finally found some time to pick up the phone. The bas thing that he was really rude to us and told us that it was our problem that we couldn't check-in time. I wonder if the guy knows what the client-service is. In the middle of the day we finally met some worker in the hotel but he didn't speak english and refused us to give the keys of our room. After an our the owner came to the hotel.After a "very polite" talk we figured out that he had made a mistake and sent information about check-in to the wrong number. But according to his logic it was again our mistake. The guy was shouting at us and said that "it is my hotel, i'm the boss here and you will do what i tell you to do". I can't understand how such people can a manage a hotel. So if you want to ruin your vacation and feel all the rudness of  a SunShine hostel dictator, you can come (but only from 15:00 till 20:00)

The worst place to stay

Pros: We booked a room for three and we got a room for five, so it was quite big. Comfortable beds. Shared kitchen right across from the room. Small but fully equiped; we got it almost just for ourselves because there weren't so many people staying at the time. 

Cons: there was no wi-fi during the three days we were there. Also, they say they have a luggage room but it's just for when you arrive at the hostel earlier than the chek-in time: they wouldn't keep our bags after the check-out, which was an inconvenience because we were counting on it. Finally, it's quite far away from the center and the bar and pubs area, so we had to spend on a daily ticket for the tram each day.

Very good hostel

I was heading with my family (4 adults & 2 children) for the Port of Kiel where we shall board our cruise ship the MSC Orchestra, and since this is a long way from Vienna, we decided to cut our trip halfway thru to rest and spend 2N/3D in Dresden, a city we've heard so much about. This accommodation was a tip from a friend who stayed there with her big family en route to Hamburg also for another cruise. I didn't expect much knowing that it is a hostel but glad to discover that it was a very neat and cheerful place. The rooms are huge, kitchen is provided at every floor and there's free wi-fi plus parking is also free! For €5 you can even get a decent breakfast, their bread rolls were great! Within the area, one will find a big shopping center and several eateries. We did try the Greek restaurant opposite the mall and further down the same road, there's also a good Asian restaurant. The place is accesible to public transport that will take 10-15 min. to city centre where the historical oldtown is located, however we took our van and parked at one of the park garages. 

The downside is that we were sent to the third floor so it was quite a climb with the suitcases for they have no elevator. Fresh sheets and beddings are provided but you need to do it yourself while towel rentals are charged at €2 a piece. In addition, one can't leave the windows at night open despite the summer heat unless you want to see spiders crawling into your bed 'cos the facade of the building is filled with plenty of them. I suggest that the management should have their place fumigated immediately!

All in all, for the price we paid, I think I can have a better deal somewhere else, probably even within the city center itself! Nevertheless, it wasn't bad at all and ideal for big families.

Stopover On Our Way To Kiel

I stayed in this hostel for 1 week in February 2013. I asked for a late check-in (after 20:30) and I was sent a code for the key-box. I don't agree the other comments about not having clear instructions on how to open the box and the door. I was sent a mail with the instructions and it was so easy. 
The hostel has a kitchen and two bathrooms (one for girls, one for boys) on each the floor. They were quite clean. I didn't have to go up or downstairs to cook which made me feel like at home. What I liked the most was, there were 6 rooms in one floor but they separated the rooms in two groups with doors. With that system I never saw another person and never felt like staying at a hostel. It was like I am living by myself in an apartment. I stayed at a single room, which had one double bed, one single bed and another single bed on top. The room was very big, it was clean in general but there were spider webs on the ceiling. The heating system was good and my room was warm all the time. The hostel is 1 minute walk to Wernerstrasse tram station so the location is good for transportation (like in whole Dresden). I didn't hear any noises from the other guests.
What is annoying was the internet. The hostel gives you a wi-fi access code but you have a 500 mb limit. Also you cannot login from more than one devices, I mean both from the computer and the mobile at the same time is not possible! In addition, the signal was very low on 3rd floor where I stayed and I could never use the internet properly. Consider that they don't have internet in the rooms.

almost as a home

I was very impressed by this accommodation. The location was excellent ... easy to link in with the trams. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Tone excellent. Ratio of facilities to patrons good. Quiet. Clean. As my first visit to East Germany I couldn't have been more impressed ... not only by the hostel but by the town itself and those who live in the same.
