This was our accommodation on a National Holiday Christmas Market break.
We could not fault hotel. From our arrival, staff were so friendly- food was very nice. Every evening a soup, a meat with vegetables ( which we weren’t expecting based on previous comments) or an omelette with veg/ potatoes, then a very attractive German torte. Free bar is good -German beer or local wine / soft drinks. 
Smile at the staff because they want you to be happy- give them a chance to put things right if you feel they aren’t eg. On night one, we asked for ice and there wasn’t any but the manager, Herr Weber made sure we had some the next evening. The staff really tried hard to please. 
Very comfortable rooms with balcony, a gorgeous view of the village Christmas tree and the surrounding hills. .. really pleasant trip. 
Don’t expect nightlife as the location is clearly geared for the summertime tourists but for peace and tranquility, picturesque backdrops, this is the place for you.

NB: WiFi needs sorting out as phone reception is hit and miss at the best of times
The romantic sentimentalist in me would have liked a little Christmas decoration in the hotel which would have captured the theme of the trip.

We found this hotel was in our opinion one of the most friendly, welcoming and cleanest hotels we have been in. All the staff could not do enough for all, the food contrary to other remarks made was good,although a little basic but there was a choice. The rooms in the annex were brilliant and so clean and tidy. 
We went National Holidays and found the trip great value for money.

National Holidays Tour

Third time we have stayed here with National holidays to visit the German christmas markets nearby.

The staff are friendly and welcoming on arrival, but this time when we arrived it was raining heavenly and were all told to go to the annex to the rear of the main hotel, but some of the guests where then told they were in the main part of the hotel so ended up getting soaking wet. Room was clean and tidy with plenty of space. Meals are served in the restaurant in the main hotel, meals are of good quality, deserts could be more interesting though. Drinks were part of our package beer, wine and soft drinks. Tea and coffee were available but were in the annex entrance hall.
There is not a lot to see or do in the village and it is a good distant to the nearest town but the scenic views on the drive to and from hotel are beautiful.

Positive all the way ...friendly hotel , comfy , great food , warm cosy, location is amazing , free travel on trams bus train supplied from hotel ..can not fault 1 thing 10 out of 10 ..highly recommended  , 

Black forest Christmas holiday

We stayed here for 4 nights over Christmas as part of a Christmas getaway
This family owned and operated hotel is separated into a main building with restaurant/bar and annex with balcony rooms overlooking the rolling Black Forest hills and the traditional German village of Elzach. Rooms are basic, but the beds are comfy. All that really is missing is a lounge/social space to relax in after dinner
Beatrice and her family are great hosts and very friendly, taking us on a walking tour of the village on Christmas morning (in -2 degrees!) We were all given free transport on local buses, trains and trams, which allowed us to travel into Switzerland on Boxing Day. They even left personal gifts on people's tables on the day of departure. All the food (and there was a lot of it) was very well cooked and tasty! 
Our daughter is learning German, and they made sure to speak 'auf Deutsch' to her whenever they could.
Thank you for making our Christmas getaway so enjoyable

Weihnachten im Schwarzwald

Just returned from New Year celebration break at this hotel..... perhaps someone should have informed the hotelier. The telephone, television and shutters in room were not working but this did not matter or spoil our visit. The room was adequate. What did ruin it was the food, lack of any festive cheer and nothing on offer on New Year's Day. Brunch was served at 9am, and was exactly the same as breakfast the previous 2 mornings, thereafter, nowhere to eat until dinner that night as everywhere was shut. No complementary toast at the bells, no 'cheers' from the host, no plan, so at around ten to midnight we all left the dining room and went outside where locals had fireworks. The food was served canteen style, queuing with your plate while owner served up. It would seem if 3 vegetables were on offer you were only allowed 2. On one night, along with my pork rissole, I was given ONE brussel sprout! We were asked for a show of hands, champagne or prosecco, which we assumed was to toast the New Year.....nothing! Still, all was not lost we had the guided walk through the forest on New Year's Day to look forward to......no, it was cancelled!!  All in all, if it hadn't been for the good company and absolute determination to enjoy ourselves, it would have been money down the drain. Cost around £1000 and booked through Caledonia travel who have been informed though still awaiting their plan on how to resolve this to our satisfaction. Rumour has it this hotel is changing hands.....let's hope so, otherwise stay home.

Worst ever New Year

 I'm at the hotel Hirschen  now  and found it basic  but adequate,    no choice of food but what we had was edible , we wont starve , area  really  beautiful and been very lucky with the weather ,   the driver was chatty  and pleasant  ,  when you go abroad you know things are not  going to be the same as at home and that you are going to be disappointed  at something in the hotel  but as long as its clean and we are not going hungry     we are happy     thank you national holidays  for a lovely trip , 

Xmas markets

Sorry to say this hotel was run by one lady who tried her best but unfortunately I think that it was too much for her. The food was of a mixed bag pre-ordering evening meal at breakfast then having to wait until it was cooked whilst sitting waiting at table. The rooms in the annex are large and nice rooms but are badly needing upgraded, general cleanliness is not good spotted a cat in the kitchen and a staff member smoking in bar area which joins the food area. This hotel is in a lovely area in a small village but the overall impression of this hotel was not good.

Unimpressed with this hotel

Our review is based on the fact all on our coach were given rooms in the hotel annex apart from our drivers who were given room in the main hotel. So this meant for every meal we had we had to leave the hotel Annex in all weathers and walk outside along the side of the hotel until we got to the front reception entrance before we got inside again which in March is far from ideal. The next surprise was the wifi was chargeable at 5 euros per day but unless in the main hotel trying to use this wifi in the annex was nearly impossible as it kept dropping out constantly, so much so that those from the coach including us stopped bothering to use it in the annex and sat in the dinning room at the tables at breakfast and dinner to use it having paid for it. Our room although booking a double room was a disabled room with two single beds of different heights so although we pushed them together they had to remain as single beds for the whole of our stay. After talking to other coach guests we discovered their showers were over a bath so as we had requested a shower only due to having bad backs so realised that was why we were allocated a disabled room. However have no idea why we were all put in this annex apart from our drivers. As they were very unhelpful and one was very unfriendly and we have to report any problems to them first so they can speak to the hotel for you so we just made the best of our room we had. We personally found the food of poor types offered apart from the bread rolls, soups and two main meals, I had to choose the omelette option offered instead with chips and potatoes. The desserts were strange to say the least but we had to eat something. We also found money was charged if you wanted a cooked breakfast again 5 euros which I ordered the first breakfast but it was it was so big I only bought the one. So I and Sue settled on the continental option that consisted of cereal boiled eggs cold meats, cheese yoghurt and fruit or toast and jams which was ok apart from the watered down orange juice so drank tea or coffee. But nothing like we got in our overnight hotel or before with all other national holidays coach tour hotels we have stayed in. The free bar was only for two hours instead of as advertised 3 hrs so if  this is down to the hotel or National Holidays changing it we don;t know but it wasn't nice to be told as you get near to arriving at this hotel.
