Horrible hotel experience - noise and customer-hating staff (owner?).

There is a Japanese restaurant directly below my room (I'm on the first floor, which in Germany, means the second floor). It sounds like a construction project going on underneath my feet as I type this. Even with the TV turned up quite loud, I feel like people are pounding constantly underneath. The restaurant employees also yell at each other very loudly.

Room security. Although they give you a key to your room (and the door to the building because reception has limited hours on weekends, and only open 7AM to 9PM weekdays), you must lock the door from the inside to be safe at night. Also, to exit the room, I have to use the key. So if there is an emergency, I have to first find the key, and then find the door, and then find the lock. Hotel rooms should be open for EGRESS without a key. And for our safety, they should lock on entry.

Then my TV broke (neither the remote nor the buttons on the TV worked). The lady on the phone was grouchy and said I should press P. Over and over "Press P". 

She scolded on an on, and said she'd come to my room, eventually.

I waited and after 15 minutes I panicked, realizing their open hours only last til 9 PM . I called again to ask if she was coming. 

She yelled at me, "I CANNOT FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Extremely grouchy, she came to my room and tried to find the P button on the remote. There is no P button.

She then tried exchanging the batteries, as I suggested. That worked. 

She literally backed out of the room scolding me about my room reservations, cuz I'd had a mix up with my room planning and will have to switch rooms. I didn't realize that my twice stated "THREE NIGHTS" would be misinterpreted two nights. 

If there is a problem, they will try to make you feel guilty about it. They will try to make you feel bad about calling reception at 8:30 PM.

I asked if I could change to a quieter room, due to the "what sounds like construction" and the lady said, "There is no construction!" I said, "I said, 'It sounds like construction, but it's the restaurant. They are banging around in the kitchen so loud my bed shook, and it goes on until midnight.'" 

She replied, "I don't believe that." 

Then she said the entire hotel is booked (this whole time I've seen maybe 10 other guests). After telling me the entire hotel is booked, she switched to another story, "Did you use your toilet today?" "Yes." "Then you cannot switch rooms!" 

I asked if she could give me ear plugs and she told me I'd have to go to the store, which is very far away, and it's snowing. 

But she wouldn't stop. She continued to berate me for not asking for another room sooner, and that I'm overly sensitive to noise. I just stood there as she continued to tell me how wrong I was, she went on and on. In typical German customer service style, she made it obvious to me that I am a huge problem in her daily life, rather than a paying customer.

No sleep, mean owner

In the short term, I needed a single room in Gelsenkirchen and found this hotel at HRS. Based on the pictures and reviews, I was a little skeptical about the hotel. But my gut feeling was very wrong: Pro: Large room, newly furnished, very clean. The breakfast buffet was sufficient and the staff was very friendly. There are enough parking spaces outside the house. At nightfall there is a key safe, everything works smoothly. By the way, you could sleep well and quietly even with the windows open, traffic noise. There is no: In the surroundings there is a burger bar, which shocked me there, the number of rats was there. But this did not affect the hotel.

Near the Veltin Arena

The Hotel Arena is located right next to the Veltins Arena. On the outside, it is still an old façade, beautifully renovated, maintained and cleaned inside. The rooms are large, due to the location there is some traffic noise during the day, but at night it is still very quiet. A decent breakfast and a reasonable price. Absolutely recommended!

Recommended again

The individual room, without bathroom, the shared bathroom is at the end of the hallway about 15 meters away. They offer you an albornoz for 5 euros and a deposit of 15 euros so that you can go to the shower dignifiedly. The towels, they are INFICIENT. The bed is noisy and uncomfortable, of the worst quality I have ever tasted in my life. (In a hotel to sleep, the bed should be comfortable). The staff is correct but the service schedule is insufficient. Breakfast time, from 6 to 9.30 (is it a joke?)

Hotel deficient 

The hotel is located on foot close to the Veltins Arena! On the opposite side. On the street side are MC D, and Café del Sole is ideal for dinner! The hotel itself has no restaurant, but in the same house there is a sushi restaurant! Right next to the hotel is a citizen King who ensures the appropriate volume at night and evening! The equipment is chic! However, there is no refrigerator in the rooms! The hood is a tribute to the mountaineers or guests who stay a night. Breakfast was for 7 euros ok friendly staff was helpful and helpful!

♪ For one night, all right ♪

I spent one night at the Arena Hotel and found it without any problems. You can walk about 8 minutes to the S-Bahn station. Gelsenkirchen's main station is about 15 minutes away by car. The hotel looks more mediocre from the outside, but is really nicely decorated from the inside. The rooms are very clean and tidy. Unfortunately the shower was not fully functional, but for one night no problem. The bathroom itself might need some storage space. You can walk about 10 minutes to the Veltin Arena. Staff very nice.

Perfect for a visit to the stadium

The hotel is located quite far from the centre of Helzenkirchen. But the main attraction of the city is located nearby - Veltins Arena, the iconic venue where he hosts his matches at the Schalke-04. Since he was about to get to the match, it was the best choice to stay overnight. The price and location - that's what played a role in the choice. The hotel has its own large parking lot. The toilet and shower on the floor - perfect cleanliness inside, and in a small, clean bathroom - its own sink. Below is a restaurant where breakfast is provided for an additional fee.

It's perfect for the games. Shalke-04.

I've been climbing the arena for years. The house itself has aged, but the rooms are individually and lovingly decorated. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is rich and leaves nothing to be desired. There are enough parking spaces available. You can walk to the chess stadium. Within a few hundred metres of the venue, there is a wide selection of restaurants.

Staff was very helpful, easy solve late my arrival problem. Hotel located very close to Veltins Arena. Easy arena access by walking. Free car parking good advantage. Next to hotel Burger King. Inside hotel Sushi restorane.

Good hotel and location

I stayed there for business and the hotel is really perfect. The bar is spacious, the staff welcoming and the room very comfortable and clean. For football fans, the stadium is a step away.
