Yep, you could whinge if you wanted. The decor could use a refresh and maybe the rooms don't have the optimum layout, but then go pay top rate places at a central hotel in the city. Schiffer was brilliant for us. On a bike tour to sylt, we stopped there and were blown away by the exceptional service, friendliness, helpfulness of the staff. All requests for gelpand assistance were promptly and efficiently dealt with. And because our clothes smelled like bears had hibernated in them, they threw in a free wash and dry. Plus we wanted to get on the road as early as possible,  sothey laid on breakfast at 6am for us. Plus beers were only one euro. Many thanks and regards.

Great place on a bike tour

I visited Göttingen from Scotland to attend a conference at the University. Göttingen being Göttingen, the town lacks the big, centrally located chain hotels that you would find in a larger city. I'm glad I found this hotel. It is quite simple, but spotlessly clean and the showers are powerful and hot. I did not eat in the hotel at all, so I cannot comment on the breakfast, which is charged as an extra. The staff do no seem to speak English, but we got by easily enough. A nice place to stay, 10 mins walk from the train station, 20 into the town centre and university.

The Pros first:
Room was very clean.
The mattress was comfortable.

Now the rejects:
1. Absolutely no place to put toiletry cases in bathroom. There is only a short and narrow shelf above the sink, 48cmX13cm ( about 19inchX5inch ). Every traveler has a toiletry case he needs to put next to the sink. It was a double room, so 2 persons need to put their toiletry cases somewhere!
Where exactly the owner of that hotel expects his customers to put them? On the floor? On the cistern?
Having no choice, we put them in the room and had to get out of bathroom every time we needed something.

2. No shampoo! No conditioner!
It's a hotel and they take 90€ per night ( NOT including breakfast ) and they do not give you even the most basic items.

3. There was a tiny bottle of shower gel and 2 bags of shower gel. I took one of the bags. The moment the bag got wet, all the printing in blue paint that was on it was on my hands and body. I stopped using it immediately and started cleaning my hands and body. What a mess, what a low quality toiletry item!

4. Partially clogged shower drain transformed every shower into a feet soaking in a deep puddle.

5. Old, worn and low quality towels.

6. In bathroom there are only 2 hooks next to sink, on which the hair dryer is hanged.There are 2 hooks on the door and 1 more hook on the wall.
So there are only 3 available hooks and 2 persons have to hang 2 face towels, 2 regular towels and 2 shower towels. 6 towels on 3 hooks.
Forget about hanging your cloths you take off before shower. You must get out of bathroom in order to put them somewhere.

7.There is only 1 electric outlet in the room you can use. The 3 additional outlets are located under the desk, so you have to creep on the floor in order to reach them.
Every traveler has many devices to charge: a cell phone, a camera, a tablet, a laptop, a GPS. That hotel's owner expects his guests to creep under the desk in order to charge them.

8. On that hotel's web site it is written ( Their web site is in German only, they don't care about non German speakers ) that there is free parking and that reservation for parking is not needed. So guests expect to have where to park when they choose that hotel. In reality, that hotel has 10 rooms but in their parking lot in front of the hotel only 5 cars can park. Parking on that street is free, but residents park their cars and when we came back from town in the evening we had no place to park our car.

9. Room was small.

10. No luggage rack and no other arrangement for suitcases. Having no choice, we put our suitcase on the floor and had to bend every time we needed something.

11. That hotel is not located in city center, it is 3 Km (1.8 mile) away and there is nothing close to it, so there is no reason for the 90€ they take per night ( NOT including breakfast ).

12. A small TV screen, 50cm ( 20inch ), I have a larger screen for my PC at home.

13.No full size mirror.

14. On the corridor next to rooms' doors there is a small fridge with drinks they sell. It makes lot of noise and it waked us at night several times. They could have put it in the staircase, far from rooms, but all they want is to sell.

Unacceptable rejects for 90€ per night !!

I booked this hotel as it was easily reached from the train station (10 minute walk), and was on the right side of the town for my business trip. Although my host (Frau Schiffer?) spoke little English, and I spoke even less German, by a combination of hand signals and visual aids we covered the basics of keys, breakfast time etc. very quickly.
My room was immaculate. Very clean throughout, and very comfortable. Good value too.

Smart, comfortable and clean

A nice little family hotel relatively close to the train station, on the other side of the old town. Therefore it is cheaper than the typical Göttingen hotel. The room was extremely clean. The design of the room was also very traditional and "Granny-like"; however, free wifi was available.
