Beautiful, old-fashioned hotel with rooms and holiday apartments in Grainau. The location is ideal for hikers because of its proximity to the Iibsee, the train station and the hell valley. The bus station directly at the hotel and near the train station also does not necessarily require a car. I recommend a room with a balcony, from here you have a wonderful view of train peaks or amber mountains. Only the bed in my apartment was not particularly comfortable, here mattresses and latches would have to be replaced. Breakfast is offered, but I have not been tried.

Ideal accommodation for hikers

I'd rather not give a star. The hotel location is good but unfortunately it's just the location. It's just weird, it's just unbearable. The staff are just looking at you and they're totally uncomfortable. I personally dislike it. Maybe it's because of the foreign name. I think the boss's sister has the job of taking care of the rooms and keeping them clean. My boyfriend was here for a week and I've been here for the last 3 days. The room is very old and hasn't been renovated for years. It's just weird, it's just unbearable, we had to get a decent light.

Called disrespectful by the racist boss

Ideal for excursions to the Iebsee, to Garmisch, etc., train station a few minutes walk away. Renovated, small bathroom, balcony with view and very comfortable bed. Corona requirements for a varied breakfast well implemented, very pleasant owner family!

Small family hotel Garni in great condition

Very nice and helpful owner, very good breakfast, bus and train to reach quickly, great views of the mountains, very quiet, very neat and clean, various locations within walking distance, good to see you again.

It's a great hotel for a family vacation.

We stayed four nights in an economy room on 2nd floor, which had a nice balcony with fantastic view over mountains and village. 
The room was very clean and the beds were firm and comfortable for us. We asked for additional pillows which was fulfilled by the hotel. WiFi worked excellent in the room as well as in other areas of the hotel. Our room was small but practical with no extras. 
Staff was polite and service oriented with good command of English as well as German. 
Breakfast was rich and varied from day to day, which is both positive and negative. 
The hotel is well situated for hiking in the area and you can easily reach the hotel without car. The bus stops just outside the hotel. 

Surprisingly good over all

I can only recommend this hotel. Nice host, great views, great to explore around Grainau and above all the great surroundings. The bus stop to Garmisch or to the train station is right in front of the house and you can use the GrainauCard for free. The tooth rail directly up to the train station is about 5 minutes walk away and the GrainauCard is also free (only the tooth rail ride. Not the gondola/rope train ride!). Breakfast is plentiful. The rooms are somewhat old-fashioned but very clean. The view is fantastic. I can definitely recommend the hotel further.

Short vacation

The reception was great! You immediately feel comfortable & welcome. My room was very clean. The view was a dream - from the bed I could see the sunrise. There are bicycles to borrow. The breakfast is also great. In nice weather even on the terrace overlooking Gr. Waxenstein. The location is perfect! There is nothing to cheer! I would love to come back. Thank you for the nice stay.

That's great!

We stayed at the hotel post for four days because we were invited to a wedding and wanted to spend a few days in the area at a relatively low cost. The hotel is a family business. We were received on the evening of arrival by the senior manager, friendly, Urbayer type - at that point a thousand thanks to him - I had lost my wallet on the bank outside on the eve of Abeise and he gave it to me the next day! Good that there are still such honest people in the area. The location of the hotel is absolutely great. With Bratheum on the top of the train from the room (at least our own) and in the morning you will be moved from the bells of the kitchen. You can also find pictures. But there is no connection to public transportation, too, but unfortunately, restaurants in 5 minutes to the hotel have also been very well placed. He has just handed it over to me and the next day.

Gentle owner, price performance is great.

Positives first - really dated old style hotel right at the bottom of the mountains. From almost everywhere you can see both the AlpsiX and Zugspitze. Ample car park.
Few minutes away from the train station and about 3 restaurants. Only 6km to GaPa. Hotel main door has a smart system that ensures the hotel is securely locked and each guest has their own access into the hotel. Lots of storage space in our room. New spacious wardrobes. Little patch of grass right next to the hotel so kids can kick some  ball. A table is reserved for your family at breakfast so that makes things simple and everyday is a different table so you can interact with different people. Breakfast is basic and clean. Decent coffee. On our first morning, we got 3 Grainau Passes dropped off at our table which gave us free access to trains and buses in the area. 

Negatives - wifi only in the reception and restaurant downstairs. Restaurant is only open for bfast and the reception is 4-5 old chairs in a small space - hardly inviting. No toiletries provided - our son had a body wash in his room and we only had a hand wash in ours! 
We stayed in room 20 and I think the beds are as old as time. They were noisy and rickety. The mattresses, pillows, sheets etc everything smelt musty. 
They run a short staffed establishment but for a small family run place we expected some friendly interaction. They will only talk if you need to settle the bill I guess. 
We didn’t come expecting a Ferrari for the price of a Polo (as we got told by the senior gentleman that checked us in) but definitely got a broken cycle for the price of one. 
We were last minute bookers so only this place was available at our price point from the very few that were still available. However if there will be a next time and I had a to chose between staying here or rescheduling, I will chose to reschedule. There is enough activity outside to keep one busy but if you need a decent place to crash after a long busy this isn’t the place for you. 
We stayed in a small hotel in Schonach in the Black Forest a couple of summers back that was also running at 100% capacity run by only two people with all info in German but they made a genuine effort to give us in depth information about everything we asked for and more. Nothing of that sort here. Not once did we feel welcome. Staying in a hotel where the guest greets the manager first instead of the other way round is a first for me. To top off his (the younger gentleman) impolite and cold behavior, as we were loading our car, he came running out checking if we had returned the keys or not! We wanted to load our car, check our rooms again, use the washrooms and then turn in the keys. Unbelievable! Not recommending this hotel to anyone ever. 
The only saving grace was that we watched the FIFA finals in the hotel which he was ok with – we were leaving for the local German pub but when we saw the screen my husband asked and he said it was ok for us to watch. Some beer and dry snacks were served as well which was welcome.

Never again

The hotel was great, everything was clean, and the breakfast was very delicious, and you get a great view of the train tower when you're in the right room, otherwise the view is just fantastic, and there's plenty of parking if there's a lot of snow and the ground is demanding, but it's hard to park.
