This was my first trip to Germany and I booked up to stay at this hotel in Berlin for seven days. It was very reasonably priced. Although not in the centre of Berlin, it is only a twenty minute train journey away in Hoppegarten and not far from a horse-racing course which is one of the biggest in Europe. The nearest station to the hotel is Birkenstein, which is about a fifteen minute walk. I found it best to get the train into the city centre from there, instead of Hoppegarten. There is a bus that runs to the hotel every hour, but I found the walk to and from the station very pleasant so I didn't take it. I don't think the staff at the hotel were fluent in English, but they seemed to understand most of what I said to them. The room was nice and clean and so was the bathroom. The cleaners came in every day to tidy up and empty the rubbish bins. The room had a tv and the wi-fi was very good. There were no cooking facilities but that was reflected in the price I paid so I expected that. I took my travel kettle with me, so I could make my own tea and coffee. There is a huge REWE supermarket right next to the station so I was able to shop there for anything I needed after returning from sightseeing at the end of the day. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in a quieter part of the city and if I ever go back to Berlin I will definitely be staying there again.



A Very Nice Hotel!

I have no complaints, I have been there winter summer autumn. Good food, good rooms, good staff, very good at English and other languages. 

Shame about its location and on Sundays you have no choice but to use taxi’s as there is no bus service to it.

But you cant hav your cake and eat it. I will stop here again I am certain. I love the train Rides on the S8 into Berlin.

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend Friday to Monday in October. Arriving at 22.00 hours the hotels in the middle of nowhere for food and drinking outlets.
Check in was seamless and the receptionist was great (only thing I didn’t like was I thought I had already paid for the hotel when I booked it turns out that my card was only to guarantee the room) we had to pay on arrival. The room key has a huge brass knob on it and is a heavy weight not something you could easily loose. When we got to the room it was clean and well-presented and the heating was on so it was nice and warm. The beds are very soft and you sink into them and come with fluffy pillows and quilt. The television is dated and there was no English channels could do with addressing this flat screen maybe with BBC news. 

Once we had put our cases in the room we went back to reception to ask were we could get a beer and something to eat the receptionist advised that everywhere was closed or too far away. However he was very helpful and helped us order Domino’s pizza and we could order beers from reception 2 euros for a bottle, water was 2 euros and coke was 2.30 euros. We had a few beers and pizza all was good.

On the Saturday we went to Berlin we hiked the 2.5 kilometres to the Hoppegarten train station to get the train to Berlin. You pay for your tickets on the platform and its 2 trains to get to Berlin we later found out Birkenstein station was a bit nearer and there was some good shops there.

The Sunday was a day at the horse races hippodrome d'Hoppegarten this is right by the train station and is a cracking day out. We got a taxi from the Hotel the receptionist ordered this for us cost about 10 euros. The races was great betting in Germany is really easy you just fill in slips for each race and the betting is tote.
Food and beer is really cheap for a race course and there is plenty of variety.

On the Sunday night we went to the Kaiser-Pavillon  Chinese’s Buffett restaurant come out of the hotel turn right and then its right and then straight for about ten minutes. The foods not the best but it’s something to do. 

Monday we went on a ramble through the industrial estate which is a short walk from the hotel. We found nothing but industrial units and a burger van. To be honest you need a car to stay at this hotel.

While waiting for our taxi the airport that we had pre booked with Rideways when we booked the trip about an hour before we were due to be picked up I got a text message saying it had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances leaving us stuck in the hotel miles away from anywhere. Luckily enough we explained the situation to the Hotel receptionist who said no problem and he ordered us a taxi to Berlin Schonefeld Airport this cost us 50 Euros that we hadn’t budgeted for.

To sum up the hotel is a great location for going horse racing in Hoppegarten and if you have a car. Its clean and well presented with helpful staff and very reasonably priced.

Hoppegarten Races 13th of October

Don't stay at this hotel.

First of all, it is not in Berlin... - it is about a 30 minute car ride outside of Berlin. There are no amenities nearby and no train station which is close either.

My friend and I arrived and decided, based on the looks of the place and the previous reviews we'd read we didn't want to stay here and decided to leave our bags there and go into the town. Fortenatley our Uber driver was still outside so we asked him to take us into the city centre. Found another hotel in the city centre and later came back for our bags.

Asked at the reception who spoke poor English if we could have a refund as we decided not to stay but was told that we had to ask for refund through the package company as it was booked through a 3rd party flights and hotel package.

After returning home, explained to the package hotel company what had happened was told by the package company that they would request a refund for me. After waiting about a week was told that the hotel would not honour the refund as states in the terms and conditions. Only got myself to blame to be honest as should have read the reviews in the first place. but honestly don't bother staying here.

Worst Hotel - Don't stay here

There is too much to say about this place. I would recommend sleeping in an empty kfc bucket before I’d recommend this hotel. Perfect if you’re a chain smoker as the building is filled with cigarette smoke 24/7 despite it being a ‘strictly non smoking hotel’. You could always enjoy a nice breakfast in the restaurant, how about a giant bowl of cottage cheese? Oh wait.. that’s milk... perhaps a giant bowl of tinned pineapple and a slice of brown bread? Enjoy your stay... 

Worst hotel 

I am currently spending my last day of a five day stay at the Hotel Mardin. The problems started when our room filled with cigarette smoke. I might add this is a no smoking hotel. A chain smoker was smoking on our landing and the place reeked of cigarette smoke. I reported this and little was done on the first night. The next day I demanded they either stop the smoker or move us. They said we could switch room later that day. When I returned from a day in the city they knew nothing about the promise but said it would be better tonight. It wasn’t. Our room smelled like and ash tray as did the whole landing. Furious I went to reception and asked to be moved. They said it couldn’t be done till the next day. True to their word we were moved to another floor the following day. I’ve just got back from a day in the city and guess what. The corridor and my new room reek of cigarette smoke. Thank god we leave tomorrow. I’ve given up trying sort things out as my blood pressure is currently through the roof. I’ve posted some photos of the disgusting state of the beds and the very dodgy wiring next to a water source of all places. I’m an electrician and I can assure you this is not to any current standards. Over all a very unpleasant place to stay. Totally ruined our trip. Not somewhere you look forward to coming back to after a long days walking. Really disappointed with the whole experience.
