It was built in the 1970s, smelly, slightly unclean. It had a room with an upholstered cellar, an old refrigerator and a Uralt coffee machine, a bathroom with a tube of about 1m x 3m. The tiles and furnishings were remodeled, a collection of various old furniture and old carpets.

Retirement coming in years, not to recommend.

Everything is clean and you can also get a good night's sleep here. The breakfast buffet is clear but contains almost everything you need. This is important. There is parking space at the door and WiFi for the most necessary, too. The carpet in the room is already in years and personally I think it's purely hygienic rather suboptimal. It's obviously adorned with the charm of the 70s and you have to get over it here too. The booked room has to be urgently renovated. The work done so far is reminiscent of well meant but not well done. As the very small bathroom, where one has no tile right at the top and the toilet is so nearly fitted that one sits on it with 190 cm of wall hanging.

This trip was the second time we stayed at the Hotel Kohl. It is a very small, family run B&B. The room appeared as homey as one would expect at thier own house. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very nice.
The hotel is located in a small neighborhood above Idar Oberstein, and on our first trip it was hard to find, as it blended in with the homes. But it was a relatively inexpensive place to stay. I had been stationed in Idar Oberstein in the mid 1960s and wanted to see how things had changed. The owner also recommended a local restaurant, where we enjoyed a local favorite dish "Speissbraten". 
The only issue we had, was the owner required cash for payment. She stated the computer was not working for credit cards, but we felt she just did not want to go through the credit card company.
