Friendly and welcoming, with lake/woods views from every window and lovely walking trails at the doorstep!  Superb/fresh Italian food!  Great service!  Lovely and romantic fireplace dining room overlooking the lake right downstairs:)  Dario, his wife Sandra, her mother Margaret and little dog Chico are Super hosts with a heart for service and quality, treated us like family, and speak English well.  We PCS'd to Ramstein AB 18-min away late January,  base lodging was getting booked, so we e-mailed & Dario gave us a great deal for 8-weeks extended stay at 120Euro/day in their big top floor lake view apartment; we're on week 5.  Features we have loved: Private patio, large picture windows lake & wooded hillside views, sun streaming in from the kitchen window, great wifi, great cross-breezes/airflow, beautiful scenic/peaceful grounds and trails into the hills and around the lake, put-put golf and Saturday flea-market and Imbiss a short walk around the lake (we love Frikadelle and Karlsberg Urpils in the sunshine at lakeside) , walking Chico on the lakeside trail, chats with Margaret about the new great-grandbaby and life in Italy and Germany, Dario's food ---oooh, the sea bass!  Great place for a wedding or other events too - they have huge dining/conference spaces and a monster sized terrace lakeside, lots of parking, easy train access from Hoheneken, nearby castle ruins and lots of outdoor wanderwegging options.  Vogelweh/Kapaun AS gates are conveniently just down the street 5-min so we could hit the commissary/Shopette and vehicle registration. 
 What a blessing, wish we could stay longer. We will be living not too far away during our tour, so will return here for dinners and evening walks often, and get word out about this hidden gem!

Ahhhh....Relaxing Mediterranean retreat in the Pfalzerwald! Vunderbar!

Across the lake is a camping site, Campingplatz Gelterswoog and it’s terrible place. 
it’s old it’s very dated and the male and female persons  operating the place are terrible people “ very selective who camps” 

I can only warn you to pass this decrepit poorly run mismanaged place and camp at other location that has merit and is professionally run..
The costs are hidden 2 euro for this and 2 euro for that, euros to shower , euros for washer on and on it goes...
The views of the lake are blocked by trees and it’s not possible to walk round the lake in any meaning full manner..

Put it mildly the place is a dump .. 



Brotish

The owner was extremely rude and my colleague didn’t have a refrigerator in his room and they offered ice. The breakfast wast ok but always late opening but the cigarette smoke coming in my room was unbearable. Internet was intermittent and sometimes completely dead but most importantly we saw dog poop laying in the lobby for almost 24 hrs and thought where else is it laying around. We tried leaving early but the owner refused to reimburse us and when we left he was extremely rude and very unprofessional. The place is overpriced, desperate for people and not deserving of your business! Read all reviews first and then run!!!!!

Vorsicht!

Very suggestive place, table facing the lake. We took two appetizers composed of a mixed salad in the middle of the plate surrounded by a quarter of artichoke, a quarter of mozzarella, three strips of peppers, a little slice of vitel tonné and a little bit of sautéed mushrooms. Then we had a very good dish of ricotta and spinach ravioli. A bottle of Lugana "Luna" (?) white wine and excellent sparkling water. All at a very reasonable price of 100 €...!  We recommend it.

Dinner for two

I recently stayed 3 nights in this hotel. The hotel is not bad, right on a lake but very close to a busy intersection of the B270. One morning I was walking to my car and my kid almost got hit by a car that was speeding through the parking lot in order to avoid waiting for traffic at the intersection of the B270. The parking lot is not paved, dark and is used as a short cut to avoid traffic. I noticed this to be the case every morning around 7 A.M. everyday that I was there. I'm thankful my room was not on the parking lot side as the noise from the speeding cars trying to beat traffic through the parking lot would have been an issue if I were trying to get some sleep. I am even more thankful my child was not hit by an impatient driver cutting through the parking lot. The hotel listened to my complaint but I don't think they are concerned enough to fix the problem. Really they could set up a chain or gate for customers only. In the meantime they really should post someone in the parking lot for the couple of hours in the morning that is an issue. From a safety aspect, I can't give this hotel more than one star until they fix the parking lot issue.

Dangerous Parking Lot

Dried, white crusty substance  (semen?) on top blanket. Empty bottle of soap in shower. At checkout I requested discount for the two issues. No discount, instead lady argued that soap was available (I climbed out of shower to get handsoap).

Not a great place to stay

I stayed here twice in different rooms, one facing the lake and once facing the parking lot, and while both rooms were clean and comfortable, they were quite different. The room facing the parking lot didn't have much of a view but was noticeably larger, while the one facing the lake had a great view it was also quite small. In both cases the bathrooms seemed recently renovated and modern, but the hardwood in the room facing the lake was superior to the carpet in the room facing the parking lot. 

While the rooms had (old school, non-HD) TVs, I never even turned them on, so I have no idea what the channel selection was like. Ditto for the WiFi, which is free but which I never tested. 

Also ditto for the hotel restaurant; I ended up eating elsewhere so I have nothing to add.

Service was friendly enough (and English-speaking) both times, and check-in was painless.

Overall a perfectly good place to stay, and I'd happily stay here again, but it's still just a basic hotel.

Perfectly decent hotel, but some rooms do have a great view!

Breakfast service slow, and the variety was below par. Minimal. The owners would argue with each other in Italian instead of checking on the customers. 
€110 per night. They told me that they'd accept my VAT form and take off taxes. On check out, after 10 minutes of discussion, the front desk person never did remove the taxes.
 
Room was not made on check in - was had to track down room service and ask her to make the beds, and most days she didn't vacuum the room. 

All in all, the location is nice, but I couldn't recommend anyone else to stay here.
