I booked a one night stay at the Hotel Grani Alter Haus in Lahnstein (just south of Koblenz) September 27th, 2018 through Booking.com.  The second I walked in the main door I knew that this was no longer a hotel.  The front officer was a store room and the owner looked at me with a “what are you doing here?” look.  She had my reservation, but the looks I was getting from other people there told me this was a mistake.  This one time hotel is a boarding house for low income people, with a mix of seating outside the rooms with ashtrays full of butts.  There is no parking at this boarding house and the on-line description of the hotel is just false.  The rooms were from the 70’s with lights not working and analog tv.  We did not stay there that night.

Not a hotel, ITS A BOARDING HOUSE

Hotel was old but clean and well maintained. Well situated. Near River Rhine. Grocery and restaurants nearby. Breakfast was delicious and service was good. Will not hesitate to stay there again in the future.

Overall, this was just what we were looking for on our stopover of the cycling tour along the Rhine river - clean budget accommodation, no detour.
The family running the hotel were friendly in an elderly German fashion, very helpful and child-friendly. We were even allowed to park our bikes indoors.
The rooms were clean, well kept and had everything needed - albeit it was fun how they reminded us of the 70's when we were little. The breakfast room was quite impressive for the height and decor.

All around very satisfactory, and we would stay again.
