Starick is quite a big complex with several small houses directly on the canal. We had a nice deluxe room, the bed was hard (good!), nicely equipped. Well filled minibar (the price was the same as in the restaurant). On the window was a mosquito-net (very useful), on the terrasse we can chill with wine under tree...idyllic. Breakfast was rich and good, coffee was not good at all (but my friend liked it). Staff was friendly, and we also rented a bikes-cost 10E pro day (June 2020), with 3-speed it was enough for flatty Spreewald. The Gurken were tasty, the gurkenmuseum-we were waiting a bit more, there are 3 rooms with traditional daily products, some agricultural tools, and some alt recipes for pickles.

Nice vaccation

We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Starick, which is situated in a beautiful location about 20-minutes easy walk from Luebbenau. From the warm reception and complementary prosecco right through to check-out, the staff members were so friendly and efficient. Rooms were clean and bright and the shower room likewise. The buffet breakfast is wonderful, with a huge selection! One small criticism - one easy chair for a double-room is not enough (though the room is probably too small for another chair?) I also now understand why one reviewer suggested booking a room on the ground floor - with the sloping ceiling upstairs, a tall person could have a little bit of difficulty getting in and out of bed! For us, it was fine! Nonetheless I would highly recommend this hotel and we will return!

A little oasis.

Just outside the town of Lubbenau, towards Lehde, the Starick hotel is set back from the road in pretty grounds. The hotel itself is quite attractive, with decent en-suite bedrooms , a little on the small side but roomy enough for a few nights. There is a bar, and a restaurant , the latter was closed on the night of our arrival, a Sunday. Breakfast was very good, buffet style, and you can eat inside or out. The location is excellent, with a 10 to 15 minute walk into Lubbenau, ( boat trips, restaurants, shops) or a five minute stroll to the pretty canals and scattered houses of Lehde. Staff were polite and friendly. Free car parking also.

Lovely peaceful spot

The location is nice, located on one of the many water ways. Features a small gherken museum, a gondola harbour where the local boat trips start, several restaurants, a pension and a sales stand for the local gherkens. The hotel rooms are nice and well furnished but most are on the top floor (attic) and have slanted ceilings. Definitely not a room to hang out in. If you plan to be out and about from after breakfast until bedtime, then it won't bother you. We had several days of heavy rain and the room got really annoying. One side of the double bed could only be accesed crouched over. If you forget to do that and get out of the bed in the morning you will hit your head.  This happened to my husband who was nice enough to put up with the side of the bed with the slanted ceiling. There is a small window in that wall which is hard to keep shut because the room, being very small and directly under the roof, does get stuffy real fast.
Another thing is that you have to log your suitcases up a flight of steps. There is no elevator.
Service was good. The room was made up every day and amenities replaced daily. WLAN is free, but absolutely useless. On a good day we managed to get our emails in once a day. The reception told us that this wasn't their fault, but common place in the entire area, yet 2 km down the road we had no problem with the internet. 

Breakfast is plentiful but to get to it one has to leave the hotel and go next door. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating. The breakfast buffet is yet in another room. This means that you have to go out into the rain to get into the breakfast area. To get to the buffet you have to leave the breakfast area, go outside again to get to that room. They have all the open areas covered with large umbrellas, but it is really weird and not very nice. They should really try to make an entrance from the hotel to the breakfast area. 

Little mishaps happened on the first and on the last day. The first day we didn't have warm water to shower with. They hadn't noticed that the water heater was down. We were promised to be informed when the water would be available, but we weren't. The last day we asked for the local honey which was on the buffet every day. We were told it was forgotten but that we had to wait because there was no time to put the honey on the buffet. The honey showed up later on. I won't even comment on this....

people that love animals should know that the hotel is full with stuffed animals.I didn't like it.
