Good restaurant with cosy decor and friendly waitress (open to non-residents of hotel) You can sit in a pleasant courtyard or inside. The fish dishes were excellent- we had lunch and dinner during our stay. First time I've eaten breem (Barsch) and Zander- both very tasty. The drinks were good value and the desserts were lovely- especially the creme brulee with berries. We didn't have a starter but were given a little pot of cream- cheese with herbs and bread. Everything was well presented. We even found out from their old photo with an old number above the door that my husband's Great- Grandfather lived a couple of houses away in 1867- Amazing!!

Very friendly and cosy place for a special meal. Plus family history as well!

Note: I have no idea if the owners speak English, but if you venture into this part of Germany, you will encounter lots of people who don't speak English. (Little history lesson: until 1989/90, in the states that belonged to East Germany, children didn't learn English in school but Russian.) I wouldn't discourage anybody from entering this adventure, though, since this is a very beautiful part of Germany. With a bit of patience, sense of humor and a good dictionary, it shouldn't be a problem.

We had picked this small hotel not just for its location in the Seenplatte Müritz (= "lake district"), but because their website promised pet-free and smoke-free lodging. Whereas it's not too difficult to find some kind of smoke-free accommodation in that area, it's nearly impossible to find non-"pet friendly" ones. (There are too many reasons to list here why in our opinion any pet friendly hotel is a rather bad idea; let's settle on the fact that one of us is highly allergic to pet dander.) 

We wanted to splurge and picked the best room with a view of the lake. It was worth the money! The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable and big by German standards, the bathroom small but very nice and functional, and there was a table with chairs (and a free bottle of locally sourced water) by the window overlooking the lake. We didn't use it, but there was a huge built-in closet. All windows could be opened, which was very nice to create a cross-breeze. As a surprise to us, our arrangement also included one free glass of beer or wine per person, which we used during dinner at one of our two evenings. Breakfast was served at the table with a small, personal buffet. If the weather is nice, you can eat in the very nice old courtyard. All the food tasted very good and is prepared in-house by the owner who is also a chef.

What we didn't like: There was no "do not disturb"-sign to hang on the door, but since it seemed more like a place for longer stays and we were there only two nights, we had assumed it wouldn't be necessary to inform anybody that we didn't need service. However, when we returned from our day's hike, the room had been entered and we felt rather uncomfortable that some of our clothes had been folded. Second, we have no idea why the owners decided to offer smoke-free accommodation because everybody seems to smoke. While we were there, we had several rain showers during the meals, and the owners barely stepped outside into the courtyard to smoke, with the smoke coming into the dining area and creating a rather disgusting atmosphere. Lastly: if you arrive with anything other than a compact car, you might be hard pressed to fit into any of the parking spots. Of which there are only 4 to 5 (depending on the parking abilities of the drivers). As parking is metered in Malchow, it is rather difficult to find convenient alternative parking elsewhere. No wireless internet available.

Beautiful lake-side heritage hotel

We went to the Hotel Inselhof for lunch. Our table was in a courtyard with a view of the lake. The food was wonderful north German cuisine. I had the sour pork dish that was prepared and presented very nicely. I plan to stay at the Hotel Inselhof for my next visit to lovely Malchow. No complaints at all. Lovely place to dine.
