I travel in Germany often and speak passable German, so knew to call ahead of time to talk to the hotel and check on a few details.  So the cash-only policy, lack of breakfast, and odd check in hours and procedures were known ahead of time and accepted.  I can look past the dark creaky hallways, mismatched cheap and worn out furniture, threadbare sheets and towels, random holes in the wall with stuff sticking out, and even the laughable tiny little catsup packet of shower gel that serves as the only provided toiletry; it’s a small local owned hotel, and certain things can be just passed off as quaint.
However, the room was very poorly cleaned, and filled with what can only be described as a stench.  There were items on the floor that made it clear a vacuum had not been dragged in there recently (leaves, a fake red gemstone, candy foil bits in the carpet).  The entire bottom edge of the shower had black mildew in the caulk and cracks, and there was one almost artfully placed black curly hair framed by the white sink.
The sewer smell had clearly tried to be covered up with an overpowering perfume, and the resulting smell was intense.  I went downstairs to the restaurant to see if I could get a different room, and was told no.  No real sense of concern over the issue or offer of any remediation.  Just no.  Because of my travel logistics and tight schedule, I was stuck for the night, which I spent with the window wide open to the 0 degree temperature, under the singlet comforter that is inexplicably on the queen size bed.
In the morning, I tried to find anyone who could check me out, in hope of a refund or at least a chance to express my concerns.  I stopped back three times, and the office was alternately closed or unoccupied.  I eventually left my key on the desk and left.  I had prepaid for two nights but just gave up on trying to get my money back for either the first or unused night, because it just was made too hard and it doesn’t seem like anyone there cares.

Shmutzig und lieblos 

Overall a bad hotel. Room was clean and warm to an acceptable level although refurbishment is long overdue. Bad smell from bathroom drain fills bedroom.
No staff in attendance.  I had to phone and was told key is in box outside for self entry.
No food available, no breakfast, no coffee or tea. I had to go hungry first night and morning. A crate of bottled beer was available in the lobby, but no means of payment. The room was serviced just once during my 4 night stay. Only 2 small satchels of shower gel provided and used on first morning then not replenished. I had to buy my own.

I didn’t receive a bill. A note was pushed under my door saying that I should visit the bar between 5:30 and 9pm to pay my bill the night before I left.
I met owners in bar who were courteous but only accepted cash, and told me to go to a cash machine for the money.  I have difficulty walking, so I was not happy.
I had to ask for receipt, which is informal and hand written.  I asked for a VAT receipt but they ignored me.
They clearly don’t declare their receipts for tax as they don’t keep a copy for themselves.

One morning when I was waiting for a taxi a man was looking for someone to pay his bill to.  No one was around so he just left without paying. We joked and compared it to Bate’s Motel from Psycho.

On a positive note the room and bedding was clean and warm and the hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood . Given that all other hotels in Marburg were booked I was grateful to find a room, but I will not go back again unless I have to.



Basic accommodation 

Nice reception, keys can be picked up at the restaurant. Room No. 8 is a small single room for around 60€/day. A small lounge with minibar is in the entrance area, Wi-Fi is free. Unfortunately no EC/credit card payment is possible, which is absolutely not up to date!

I don't want to give this place any more of my life, so I'll be brief: + quiet + beautiful beer garden + generously cut bathroom + In 10 minutes in Marburg city centre - bed sheets with holes - towels with holes - no card payment - 89€ (last minute) NO breakfast the night - dirty peeing in the bathroom - video surveillance in the entrance area And because I don't have a buck anymore I quit at this point.

A garni hotel with a restaurant but no breakfast??!! Never again!

The fact that the grease smells of the kitchen of the attached restaurant are dragging through the house, the towels smell like chlorinated detergent, the stairwell gives the impression of being in need of renovation, the carpets give the impression of being outdated and dirty, and the house is very bright makes a homey feeling unlikely.

The hotel is already a little older and in a rather bad condition, but clean and sufficient for a stopover. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitable. The breakfast was very good. The wheels can be parked in the stopover, but only Max.3, the rest must stay outside. The connection to the Lahntal cycle path is very good, just over the bridge, ready. To the city you walk 20 minutes.

Wheeled tour of the valley

We had the spacious holiday apartment on the second floor of the former farmhouse with modern amenities (the hotel rooms are on the first floor). Booking was easy, very nice owners and staff; good, versatile breakfast. Beautiful, quiet location, right on the Lahn and just a few kilometers from the Marburg city centre. Also the Wehrdaer shopping area is not far away. Good parking. Small restaurant in the same building. Free WIFI.

A great address for visitors to Marburg

This hotel is located just outside the city center of Marburg. It is located on the Lahn, in the backyard there is a beer garden (it was of course not opened in December). The hotel is owned by the owner, the owner is very friendly. The room was nicely furnished, furniture and mattresses are in good condition. There is a buffet breakfast, it is sufficient, fresh and very clean.

Nice hotel, nice location

The staff were very, very friendly. The room was comfortable. The bathroom large. My only issue was the bed was a bit soft and bouncy for my taste, but the bed may be great for others. Cash is only taken as well, which is a bit cumbersome for a business traveler. WiFi was good. Breakfast was good.
