An excellent al fresco dining experience with keen attention to detail. Restaurant Bock offers an excellent choice of vegan and vegetarian options of a high standard - rather unusual for restaurants in this area.

A notch above other restaurants in the area

I have eaten at this restaurant with my partner three times. All three time were at midday; on 15, 22, and 29 January 2016. This restaurant’s location in Lahnstein makes it a favorite for lunch for those that are working in Lahnstein, or for those that are planning to shop / have shopped in Lahnstein (E.g. Globus is not far from this restaurant) for either lunch or dinner, or for those that are just hungry eat for lunch or dinner and want a good place to. They are very friendly and have greeted us each time we entered the restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is good.
The Menu is easy to read and understand. The Menu is a ‘Limited Menu’, meaning they have 4 Entrées that change slightly every day, such that there is normally a Schnitzel, Beef, Vegetarian, and Fish Meal each day. The limited menu makes it easier for the cook to prepare and faster for the customer to be served. Our two meals took less than 10 minutes to be served. This gave us just enough time to eat our salads and soups. But be careful ‘Restaurant Bock’; customers should not receive their hot soup or main Entrée before they are done with their salad, otherwise the hot food will go cold before they can eat it all. Your goal is to ensure that each customer has a terrific eating experience and then tells their friends how good your place is. Your goal is NOT to rush or pressure customers to eat fast and leave. The 2nd time we ate at Restaurant Bock the Main Entrées were served so quick, that they forgot to bring us our soup and we ended up eating our soup after the Main Entrée. My soup was still hot after I finished my Entrée, but my soup came while I was still eating my Entrée, which required me to eat my Entrée faster, so my soup didn’t go cold. My soup sat untouched for about 2 minutes, while I finished my Main Entrée. Luckily my soup was still hot when I got to it. The reason salads and soups are served first, is so the cook has time to complete the Main Entrée while the customer does not become bored waiting for his Main Entrée. 
I also did not see any meals for lunch or dinner for the ‘Small Guest’, so I cannot report on this. There is a Drink Menu available, but one must ask for it. The drinks are not listed on the normal Midday Menu.  On the Drink Menu they have both 0, 2 ml, 0, 3 ml, and 0, 4 ml size non-alcoholic drinks. We asked for a small coke and a small apple juice; we received a coke 0, 3 ml and an apple juice of 0, 2 ml. Why not two 0, 2 ml or two 0, 3 ml size glasses? No idea?
The Midday Menu consists of a salad (buffet- with various items), soup, main entree, and desert (choice of two).  The Salad / Desert Bars are visible, as one enters the establishment.  If you want to know the soup of the day you must ask. Neither the deserts nor the soups are listed on the paper Midday Menu.
I have ordered both the Backfish with Saltzkartoffeln and the Rindfleischstreifen with Rösti and my partner has had the Schnitzel with Tomaten & Käse and Pommes-frites. Both meals were served hot and together at the same time. I tried them all and I can recommend all these meals as delicious. Plus, the prices are fair and the portions good.
Concerning space, there are two inside rooms and an outside ‘Beer Garden’ where one can choose to sit; whereas the 2nd room is often used for special parties and gatherings. Plus, since we ate here in January, we did not sit outside, so I cannot report on the ‘Beer Garden’. The space between tables and chairs is OK, such that one does not have to disturb or push past others to get to their table. The tables are either for 4 or 6 person tables. And the tables can be put together in the 2nd room for parties or gatherings of more than 6. So, this is a great place for large groups or gatherings up to approx. 30 persons. 
The inside surroundings are pleasant and the decorations classy with an old world charm and modern pictures on the wall. The floor is carpeted, which makes it feel warm and cozy inside. Plus the carpeted floor makes the restaurant quieter. The tables are sturdy solid wood and the wooden chairs are nicely cushioned. The lighting inside is just right. Either natural light through the front windows or the lighting in the room is fine. I had no problem reading the Menu with the light provided. The noise level inside the restaurant is kept to minimum via the carpeting, cushioned chairs, and furniture that absorbs the sounds in the room. The temperature in the room was fine. While the two heavy front doors are a problem for the disabled, the double door system does keep in the heat and keeps out the cold winter air.
Table decoration are simple with two table runners (too long) a plant, salt and pepper, silverware and a decorative folded paper napkin. Tables are bussed after each customer; and the old runner is replaced, as it should be. Each place setting has a knife, fork, and spoon; not just a knife and fork, but also a spoon. A strange long spoon, but a spoon.  So, if you want a spoon, you do not have to go hunting for one. Plus, there are smaller desert spoons available at the Desert Bar.
There is a place to hang coats and hats. But watch out if you sit next to the coat rack. Other customers cannot control their coats and tend to hit the customer sitting in the booth next to the coat rack, when putting on or taking off their coats.
Parking: Parking is available in front of restaurant or on the other site of the street. There are some non-pay and some pay to park slots.
The restrooms are in the basement and they are clean. That means the kitchen is also clean!
I did not see anyone with a dog in the restaurant, so I can also not report on this.
I do not know if they have take-out or not, so I cannot report on this either.
Disabled: As I stated Parking is available just outside the Restaurant/Hotel. The problem for the disabled is mounting the two front steps and opening the two heavy front doors. But once inside moving around is no problem. Plus, one can easily access the Salad/Desert Bars by wheelchair. Restrooms are in the basement and unfortunately inaccessible for anyone disabled in a wheelchair.
This Restaurant/Hotel has its own Internet Site in German and ENGLISH. Their internet page has a lot of useful information. E.g. restaurant opening hours listed; the Restaurant/Hotel’s address and phone number; a Map showing its location; pictures of the Restaurant/Hotel; an On-line Menu; an On-line email address; and contact page. The restaurant also has its own Wi-Fi, but we have never used it.
We will be back to eat at this restaurant again.

Midday Meal in Lahnstein

A somewhat tired property in Lahnstein, with an awkward outside stairway for access to the rooms. The owners are pleasant enough  -  the husband is a great chef  -  but the service in the restaurant is appallingly bad  -  a lot of young, disinterested staff. Moreover, we left an item in our room which they agreed to forward on but never did. Not worth the money. If you're heading for this part of the Rhine, there are fare better places not that far away.
