Am Römerweinschiff is a Café-Konditorei & Hotel located in the centre of Neumagen at the Mosel River. The café is furnished and decorated in a friendly seventies style. Service is adequate.

Neumagen is quiet and unimpressive. Café Römerweinschiff is popular with by-passers as well as tourists. The Konditorei is a classical German patisserie and offers coffees and a choice of homemade tarts and pastries.

We came on a bicycle tour and the Café terrace was tempting for coffee and cake. The tart was so-so and the coffee was reasonable. Am Römerweinschiff is an OK place for a coffee break. In from of the door you find a copy of the Roman wine ship statue.

Local Café & Konditorei

We booked this hotel at the last minute and were well received by the very friendly proprietor. The hotel is part of a café which sells bread, cakes and ice-cream as well as souvenirs. It has views of an old church and the famous Roman wine ship sculpture after which the cafe is named. 

The two rooms were spacious and clean, with functional decor. Despite temperatures outside of 37C (96F) the rooms were cool. But it was not possible to keep the room windows open at night as Römerstrasse is the town's main street and the few cars that pass make a lot of noise on the cobbles. Perhaps one of the side rooms would have been a better choice. 

Breakfast was generous in the dining room decorated with a collection of coffee grinders and relief sculptures. The service was friendly and attentive. 

This is a great place for a one-night or two-night stay. 

Friendly no-frills overnight stay with charming cafe

My friends and I stop here every year as part of our motorcycle euro trip. We stop for tea and cake and it had always been fabulous. The owner is friendly and attentive and the cakes are heavenly.

It is great to sit outside in the picturesque square and relax for a bit.

Fantastic place over a wonderful bakery. The breakfast of various breads and spreads was incredible.Two single rooms were almost like having a private apartment.The location along the Moselle was brilliant. Open accessible minibar in common area downstairs available all night for guests. The staff were very helpful and a delight.

Fantastic value and delightful bakery in a great village

We'd had enough cycling for the day and this was the only hotel we could find in the village of Neumagen where we'd planned to stop. It was Sunday so Tourist Info was closed. There were some rooms available in private homes (zimmer frei), but we wanted room with WC.

This hotel is on the main narrow road through town so there were numerous buses, trucks & other vehicles barrelling down the skinny street. The location is an interesting historic site where there was once a Roman fort, across from 12(?) century St. Peter Chapelle & the Roman Wineship monument.

Hotel rate was somewhat higher than similar accommodations in larger centres like Traben and Trier, cash only. The 2nd floor room was comfortable & clean but appeared to have undergone a DIY renovation... odd bathroom configuration, a gap in floor covered by carpet and thin walls (could hear our neighbour coughing). Wifi included and secure garage for bicycles.

After checking in, we hopped on our bikes about 17:00 to explore the town & find a place for supper; there was no town centre and no open restaurants. Hotel proprietor Herr Wald suggested a winery that opened 18:00 only a few steps from the hotel. There we found pizza and an abundance of excellent wine for reasonable price, so it turned out to be a lovely evening on the patio.
The hotel breakfast was disappointing, barely adequate, no eggs and the proprietress seemed to be the only one on duty, serving breakfast, preparing for lunch and also looking after bakery customers.
Recommend? maybe for one night if on your way through the Mosel valley.
