This is the worst hotel I ever been to.

The receptionist was with an angry attitude, making remarks about my reservation. And didn’t give any kind of service.
There are NO functional air conditioning anywhere in the hotel. 
Not in the rooms, not in the breakfast areas.
The rooms haven’t been cleaned for dust, in a long time.

The breakfast was.. not good. Questionable.. at best.

The hotel is placed next to a strip club, and there are junkies all over the area. It’s dirty in an unhealthy way.

I can NOT recommend this hotel at all.

The worst hotel ever

Hi,

1- no receptionist during the expected hours: 07:30 to 11:00 and 17:00 to 22:00
2- nobody replying the phone.
3- drunk people sleeping in the corridors
4- big noise in the corridors after midnight
5- stones in the breakfast floor most likely due to some maintenance in the roof with no barrier control.

I did not feel safe and comfortable with my kids there.

Rooms was nothing more than what we can expect for a Budget hotel.

Not a safe place

As you would expect from an Ibis budget. Electronic check-in with a code for the room door. Rooms were clean and the hotel is close to the main train station.

There was a vending machine selling soft drinks and beer.

As you would expect from an Ibis budget hotel

A very pleasant stay at the Ibis Budget Hotel in Osnabruek City. Service was impeccable, the breakfast excellent and the location ideal for all forms of transport when visiting this historic city. The room was a very good size and a very comfortable two nights stay was had.

Wonderful Stay in Osnabruek

It's a budget Ibis, which means basic. Basic room (separate toilet, but shower and basin in bedroom, bunk bed sideways over the double), basic breakfast, no reception for large parts of the day so auto-checkin, no parking (my motorcycle went in the station bike-park) ... BUT it was good value, clean and it was VERY close to the train station. I didn't understand some reviews talking about it being a dodgy area, didn't seem that way to me although there was a drunk couple arguing VERY loudly in the station forecourt when I arrived... Mostly it was as you'd expect.

Ideal hotel if you are travelling by train clean, staff are nice pity they didn’t have tea/ coffee facilities in rooms or a fridge for drinks then it would get full marks I know they have a tea/coffee machine in the foyer but it’s black with sugar and i don’t like tea from a machine

This is a general observation - this hotel was the final straw. I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively this year to many countries and It is becoming more evident that the large hotels chains that have an entry level budget hotel put very little effort in the brand to get the most out of clients. I am starting to question some of the lower end budget hotels ratings. I have found you can't always trust hotel ratings abroad.

Some of the slow degradation I have experienced personally over the last trips from entry-level accomodation...
• Don't replace soap
• Don't make up rooms 
• Hang used dirty towels up hoping no one will notices
• Broken doors and chairs
• Poor TV quality and / or channels
• more and more unfriendly staff 
• total disregard for travellers circumstances. (I was asked to pay an extra €12 at  Ibis Osnabruck because I wanted to check.in half hour early than the 3pm required time even though the room was ready)
• aircon not working or so noisy makes a jet engine sound quiet.
They believe gettng one joining their loyalty programme justifies this treatment.  They know supply will outstrip demand as more people travel and they know no matter how bad they treat you there are enough in the queue taking your unhappy place and banking on the high probability you will never tour that area or city again.

I have written personally to these hotels numerous times and all I get his a standard response, "we apologise. We looking into it and will respond"... then nothing 

So how these hotels get such high ratings is beyond me. I honestly believe these chains get their staff to "hack" the comments so as to dilute the true responses and thereby keeping the hotel looking good but in reality it's not up to the standard they claim. Or true results are skewed due to the big chains advertising on sites  holding them to econimic ransom.


When Blue makes me see Red

If all you are looking for is one night between trains/ coaches, this might be for you. If you want to stay in beautiful Osnabruck for longer, you should go somewhere else. The hotel is situated in the very shady area around the station and I never felt entirely safe walking home in the evening. At first glance the youth hostel style rooms seemed clean, but the cleaning service on the next days was superficial at best. One day the room wasn’t cleaned at all, I think all that happened on the other days was that someone straightened the bed covers and hung up the used towels that I had wanted changed... 
In the room is a separate toilet but there is no privacy for sink/shower. Breakfast was ok. It’s relatively cheap.
