On 22-11-2023, I (with my spouse) was a guest of Thomas Schanz in Piesport. I can be brief: very best experience ever and that even by distance. After a very warm welcome, we were escorted to our table. The restaurant is very warm with beautiful colours.
Just a recap of the dishes:

- 4 very tasty amuses where the veal tartare with lemon-Colatura sorbet was a hoot: what flavour sensations.
- then truffle egg, delicious
- 1st course: Rosace of foie gras with sheep's cheese, beech nuts and pepper rice: probably the topper of the evening: generously proportioned foie gras, we almost fell off our chairs, insanely delicious !!! A glass of Rivesaltes 1982 completed this dish.
- 2nd course: red barbel with caviar, banana and a Kardamon-Riesling sauce
- 2nd course: Merluza with papaya and rice
- 4th course: Grilled Carabinero (langoustine) with melted marrow, parsley and Bergamotte sauce
- 5th course: Turbot with apple: wawwww what a dish
- 6th course: delicious dessert of raspberries and Rucola sorbet

What is noticeable is that heavy sauces but broths are not served here, which (especially afterwards) gives a pleasant feeling.
An inspired sommelier gave us a choice of 2 wines with each course: one German and one non-German, a surprising and fun experience, which should happen more often.The chef also showed up afterwards and had time for a short chat.Thomas is an extremely nice and modest man, no grandstanding but hardworking in this family-run business where his parents also work.Back home another particularly nice, personalised gift. Price-quality is fine here: a 6-course menu for €265 p.p. and wine package for €112 (2 pers.) is excellent and certainly not overcharged. The hotel rooms are fresh and nice and the breakfast excellent and that for €175 is again very neat. Now, 2 days on, we still have that blissful feeling !!! We will definitely come back and as true gourmands we can say with certainty that Thomas Schanz is numbero uno.

No critical note then ? No, this is not near perfection but this is perfection. A critical note then: twice served a white wine that was far too cold.

Best ever

This hotel located in Piesport is underrated at 3* - it's beautiful. The rooms are recently decorated and are very modern, clean and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a short walk to river where you can stroll along the Mosel. The gem of the hotel is it's 2* Michelin restaurant. Service, ambiance, food presentation and taste, and wines were all exceptional. Hotel and Restaurant Schanz were the highlight of cycling trip along the Saar and Mosel rivers.

Beautiful hotel with exceptional restaurant

Our newly refurbished room was very clean and comfortable and, and Eur138 for B&B including breakfast, it was verging on luxurious. We stayed in March but noticed that, unusually for the Mosel, it also had an air conditioning unit which would be a God-send in summer. Of course, one of the the reasons to come here was to dine in the AMAZING 2* Michelin restaurant. We drove a detour of 200 miles to return to this restaurant and decided to stay the night. It was well, well worth it.The 6 course tasting menu for Eur 165 each was a splurge but in our view was right up there amongst the very, very best. VISIT!

Excellent - and great value too!

Located, sorry to say, in the middle of nowhere, the drive there can be delightful with Mosel views and cute villages. The food is outstanding, the service easy and friendly but very professional and wines are great. I highly recommend the place. If you have someone to drive there and back ))

Excellent Michelin 2 stars

Really liked this sweet hotel. The rooms are decorated in a tasteful neutral scheme. The basement lounge is charming and the breakfast room is in a super modern style with cleverly placed ventilation windows - it does not feel like a basement - and beautifully displayed foods. There is a convenient pub-type place on the corner down the street. But how lovely to be able to have a beer on their hotel terrace after arriving from a lengthy cycle,

Positives
Nicely decorated big room. Bathroom had a magnifying mirror (always a bonus when you are a certain age). Room had a lovely private balcony. The wine in the mini bar (their own wine) is fairly priced. Well located along the Main Street. There are some tables immediately in front of the rooms which are lovely for a drink in the sun before dinner 

Negatives
Breakfast was average. We had expected something amazing as the rooms are connected to a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars. No view.
