We stayed there for two nights. The first night we got room number 11 at the 2nd floor. It was pouring with rain outside and there was thunder and lightening. Then it started pouring inside our room. Both down from the window and from the ceiling. The curtains and the floor was all wet in the place around the window and the cracks in the ceiling. So we had to call the emergancy number, 'cause it felt unsafe! 
I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all! We made a complaint but only got 20 Euro off the price.

Unsafe hotel room when raining

I stayed at this hotel because it was included in a prepackaged bike tour. The location was good, central in charming Radolfzell. Unfortunately this hotel does not deserve to be on anyone's list of desirable destinations. On arriving, the lady at check in was business like and abrupt. The room was dark and the furnishings old and run down. The carpet should be replaced as should the sofa. The mattress was too soft and the bathroom amenities were very skimpy. Just an envelope of soap, no shampoo or body lotion. It was a hot day and I asked if we could have a fan, but there was none to be had. We wanted to have a beer in the restaurant while waiting for a friend, but that wasn't possible either. The hostess made us feel like it was an imposition for us to be  even just waiting there. The breakfast buffet was a joke. No fresh fruit, choice of Müsli, just some hard boiled eggs,  rolls and cold cuts. This place writes the book as to how not to run a hotel!

NOT TO BE RECOMMENDED

Arriving from an overnight flight from the US jet-lagged and tired, trying to check in, my wife realized that her assistant did not book for an early arrival. The front desk did not have a room available. My wife asked if she could sit in the empty restaurant and work until a room became available and was rudely denied. She ended up cancelling her reservation and moving to another more friendly hotel.
I called later to speak to the manager (I speak German) and was also rudely advised of the "allgemeine Geschaeftsbedingungen" (general business rules). There was no insight that they had been unhelpful and unfriendly to an exhausted stranger. While I have found that Germany has improved from a "service desert", this hotel did take the star for bad customer service. I now know why baby Jesus was born in a manager in a stable - he did not read the "allgemeine Geschaeftsbedingungen" and encountered the Krone staff.

Unfriendly, not helpful....

After a long day of biking and looking forward to our room, I was surprised by the reception we received.  The man at the desk was going over the details of our stay and I asked one question.  He very sourly said, "If you would be quiet and listen, I will tell you everything you need to know."  What a way to start!  Unfortunately, when your stay starts like that, you notice everything negative about the place.  The location was good but I would never recommend nor stay here again.

Poor customer service!

Two nights on business.  Visited Rafolfzell many times before, but not this hotel.  Location is great, very central and the staff friendly (we got by with my poor German and their limited English).  Room was quite worn, but clean.  Bathroom was good with a large shower cubicle (important to me) and the breakfast was decent.  And the room was on the small side.  Oh, and there was free Wi-Fi, which is worth a mention.

Summary?  I'd stay again, but not exceptional.
