Wonderful experience and service. Wolfgang was an  exceptional host. The food in the restaurant was fresh and delicious. Best we had. The hike around Lake Hintersee and to Ramsau was great. St Sebastian church was beautiful inside and out. The cemetery a must see.
We went to a ale the chairlift up the mountain and it was closed for wind. The views up the mountain road were “Sound of Music” pretty. 
We saw Kongisee lake on a rainy day and did the   hike around Lake Obersee.
Lake Hintersee is right out the door and a beautiful hike and less crowded than Kongisee. 
The gorge hike was nice but not as pretty as in Slovenia with the turquoise water of Bovec.  The kid you have to pay parking and need euros up at the trail entrance.  Wolfgang gave us s card to discount these items. Very helpful. Just a beautiful and clean area. Would love to come back.

National Parks of S. Europe

Stayed 1 night as we passed through. Lovely quiet surroundings in Ramsau. Rooms are large and clean. Bathrooms are modern and comfortable. The owners run the place and are helpful and friendly. The restaurant and breakfast are also great for typical Bavarian food. I would stay longer if I was revisiting the Konigssee area again. 

Nice quiet stay

We stayed here in June 2016 for the first time in about 7 years, but we have stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 times before, going all the way back to when the current owner's father was the owner.  The family is wonderful.  They really made us feel like we had come home after a long time away.  

We absolutely love the Hintersee.  It is a small, sparkling, clean lake surrounded by the towering cliffs of the Bavarian Alps.  Great for walking or canoeing.  Also, the Zauberwald, which is a loverly little forest on the other side of the lake, with a fast running stream passing through it, makes for a great walk.  If you are more adventurous, you can tackle Blaueishutte, a very steep and long hike up into the higher elevation Alps where there is glacial ice year-round.  The trailhead is a relatively short distance from the Woerndlhof.  Peripatetical is right when he says the Hintersee is nicer than the Konigsee.  Of course the Konigsee is spectacular, and has some great activities, but the crowds are ridiculous.  The Hintersee is peaceful the scenery is stunning.

The rooms at the Woerndlfhof are newly renovated and modern, but maintain a traditional Bavarian feel.  The food in the restaurant is some of the best Bavarian food we have eaten, but most importantly, we have always received a warm welcome from the Barthel family every time we have stayed there. 

We will make it a point to go back whenever opportunity brings us to Munich in the future.

Like Staying with Good Friends

After we stayed there already in 2014, we came back in 2015 for another week to enjoy the wonderful Berchtesgadener Alps! The hotel lies 100 m from the shores of Hintersee a quiet natural marvel and is only served by a small which makes it quiet. Even in hot summer days the location is cool and the hotel offers a wonderful beer garden to sit outside. The hotel is owner run but a you couple and their mother. They truly represent Bavarian hospitality! The rooms are nice and all is well maintained as they lice there themselves for generations. The hotel is just 400 m from the local bus stop which is served each hour so i is also perfect for people without car as we were. From the hotel one can go hiking in the wonderful nature of the National Park. Always coming back again as it provides the best value for money.

2nd wonderful summer vacation with mother

Skiped the crowds at th Konigsee and enjoyed the quiet Bueaty of the Hintersee. The Woerndlhof is the smallest and most charming of the Gasthops on the lake.Had a nic room with a few of the mountains. The rooms are slightly overpriced but the restaurant prices make up for that.

The dining room is charming, the staff is attentive, the menu is broad and the food is well prepared. I had a huge Pork Shank with a tasty Dark Gravy and a huge Bread Noodle. My wife had a Cheese Noodle and a large green salad. Large dinner for two plus beer and wine for $38.

Forget the Konigsee, the Hintersee is nicer
